K750i : Good Ugly or Bad !

Thanks to all the great MouthShut people who wrote reviews about K750i in such a manner that I was left in no more confusion between K750i, W700i and Nokia 6131 (Which is an amazing phone screen-color wise). Deciding K750i was not an easy choice when we have a good competitor from the same SE brand, i.e. W700i. Need not to mention, 6131 couldn’t stand in this class.

I went to check the prices in market and found that W700i could come for minimum of 12, 200 and K750i could come for minimum of 10, 800. I was in dilemma but finally I went for K750i more for the price barrier than anything else. I know 256 MB card shipped with W700i wouldn’t suffice me and I would go for 1GB card anyways and then the special handsfree shipped with W700i could come for Rs500 here. Overall, I decided to choose K750i and I m happy I chose it.

Did phone meet my expectations?

This is the main question. Prior to buying this phone I have been using another masterpiece from Nokia, Nokia 3200 from last two years. When I bought that, it was one of the fews Cam phones with FM radio. I was in love with it, however for more than two years, phone performance had gone down a lot and I had to buy a new one. Then came this K750i. I bought it for its great music, radio and camera. read lot of reviews before buying it. In all the reviews, K750i had 4 or 5 stars rating. Everyone was impressed with this. I am actually no EXCEPTION.

Phone looks good, really good. Problem is that its not available in many colours. The Oxidised black is a prominent color, other one, I am sure you wouldn’t like to try.Back panel is just great. When u slide the camera cover, it makes you feel as if you are really ready for the shot of the day. The screen and keys are equally distributed on screen. Keys are rather a bit small. Phone looks good when you hold it. It is just 99g, but feels heavier, I think because of its immense features.

Have downloaded few songs and quality is amazing. MegaBass sounds really good. MP3 menu hung once other than that performance has been above average. FM is also simple and nice. Says can store 20 channels, but we don’t need so many. Do we? However, Signal reception is not as good as Nokia 3200, am sorry. My 3200 had no problem in getting signal in my room, but with K750i, I have to arrange the handsfree cord to get proper signal. Thats fine.

Camera seems fine. I was hoping that it would replace my Digicam. Thats not the case. I wouldn’t say I have been very impressed with the camera performance. Camera though is better than any Nokia or SE phone I have seen. I have traken few pics and its really nice to see them on phone. You can view them full screen on the screen. Autofocus works amazing, like a real digicam. AutoFocus may not work properly in dim light. The camera slider is really handy. Looks good as well. Few pictures do come yellowish, haven’t been able to find out why? Video quality is average. Anyways, this is a SE phone and not Sony HandyCam, is it?   :)

Battery, personally my biggest let down. I am a heavy user. If you keep using the phone and keep toggling the menu options for 15 mins, the battery used would come down to 90% from 100%. I wonder, If I am playing game for 2 hours and I am listening to music simultaneously, My battery would comedown to 50%. Well, this may the way these high performer cell phones consume battery, but then this is just too less. If I have MP3 on for 4-5 hours, that would consume lot of battery, would, ’t it? Well, I guess, I may be over-reacting on battery, I dont know. But, I am planning to go for a backup battery. However, Battery usage seems amazingly less in Idle mode.Other problem is that you can’t use the handsfree and charger together. A big let down for me. Takes long to complete the charging as well.

:)

Haven’t used MusicDJ, PhotoDJ and VideoDJ as yet, hope they be fine but those things need you to spend some time in them before you become comfortable. I haven’t used them much, however, whatever I have used, it seems that using them is not so difficult, I mean if a two years nokia avid user can use them, anyone can use them then.

PlayNow is a waste option, I wonder how many people would use it. Screen resolution is just amazing. Everything looks so clear. The menus comeup fast. this phone is definetely fatser than my 3200. Atleast 5 times faster or even more. My 3200 took around 2 mins to copy all my 249 phone contacts to SIM, K750i took not more than 10-15 sec to copy everything from SIM to phone.

Remaining pohone features are absolutely fine. SMSing is a pain for me. Thats because of my habit with Nokia. I m sure it would take around 2 weeks while I get used to it. Network reception is absolutely fine. Sound is coming out without any problem and is absolutely clear. One thing that I am missing out on, the loudspeaker is really loud. I had my doubts on how loud actually would it be. Quality, I was sure of but not of volume. But the volume is really really high. Above my expectations. And with high volume, quality doesn’t go down. With loudspeaker on, it sounds amazing, doesn’t sound cheap at all. More than camera, I have been impressed with the sound and music part of it. I have read many reviews where its camera has been praised, but the sound is one of the best in class, better that Nokia 3250 for sure.

Using keypad is ok, nothing fancy, I am sure an SMSer may not find it easy. Menus are rather smooth and simple. Beginners wouldn’t have any issue in using. Screen is relatively small, but when you start using it, the screen is so fine, u wouldn’t complain about small screen. The joystick seems a problem. Its handy, but then chances are that it may get stuck sometime. Nothing to worry about though, I guess it costs around Rs.300 to replace. Usability is also great. games are nice for a game-buff. I m sure they’ll enjoy it. Applications like Alarm, Timer, Stopwatch, calculator are simple and easy to use.

Summing up the review here. I have been using it for last one week, and honestly I don’t think I made a mistake in buying it. In this price no-where I can get a phone with such a class performance. I am happy with my purchase. Lets hope that smile remains. Only thing I wish could have been better is the keys on the keypad and different port for charging and handsfree. With all that, I would always recommend it..
