Being a hardcore Nokia fan, I was eagerly waiting for Nokia 6680 before I upgraded my phone contract (I currently have Nokia 6230), but was disappointed by its plastic & rather plain looks. Luckily, I was in the vodafone shop the day Sony Ericsson K750i was released, & I was bowled over by its looks! The large black screen contrasted very well with the silver phone. The 262K resolution & bright colours are truly awesome, which has to be seen to be believed!
I will simply enlist the things I like & things I dont like about the phone.
1) Excellent screen resolution. There was a cartoon clip in my phone, which was superb, as if I was watching it on an LCD TV!
2) Loud & clear stereo sound through the handsfree provided. You really will not need an MP3 player, as the quality matches with the very best in the market. And with Memory sticks available upto 2GB, you can store about 500 songs. The FM radio is also excellent, with RDS (the names of certain FM stations (with RDS) are displayed on your screen). You can save upto 20 channels.
3) The user interface is very easy to understand. I had no problems getting used to it, after 5 years of Nokia use.
4) The 2 megapixel camera is easily the best I have seen on a camera phone. The inbuilt flash (its actually a very bright light, rather than a flash) is extremely powerful. I clicked a photograph of a flower pot in total darkness, & the results were excellent, with natural rendition of flower colours. You can direclty print from it either via bluetooth or through the USB cable provided (which was a pleasant surprise to me!)
5) The flash can also function as an emergency light, which is very powerful.
6) The battery life is very good. Some reports quote the talktime as 400 hours, & some quote as 540 hours. Whatever it is, I feel the need to charge it once every 3 days, with my moderately heavy use.
7) The 3D games are cool, especially splinter cell. All are demo versions, youll need to buy them for full versions.
Now the things I didnt like about the phone:
1) The loudspeaker volume is very low, even in the maximum. Before buying the phone, make sure you listen to the loudspeaker, to decide if you can live with it.
2) After 15-20 mins of talking, suddenly either I cant hear the other persons voice, or vice versa. Ive been on vodafone network for a year now, so Im sure its due to the phone. Ill go to vodafone tomorrow to change the handset.
But overall, this is an excellent phone. I would have preferred the W800i, or even Nokia N91, but I couldnt wait that long, when this was good enough. Only a phone as good as this could have forced a hardcore Nokia fan like me to go for it!
Updated on 26/07/2005:
I have just upgraded the rating from 4 star to 5 star. This phone, undoubtedly, is the best camera phone in the market today. If you dont need 3G features, this is the ideal choice. I am not facing anymore problems of dropped calls. The speaker volume is low, but crystal clear. Im used to the speaker volume now, you can hear it in moderate outside noise.
