Sony had decided to upgrade their market ruling K750i and K790i, and that’s when they came up the Sony Ericsson K810i. This was Sony’s way of taking their cybershot series to the next level. This phone boasts of a 3.2 mp camera with xenon flash, 3G compatibility and video calling facilities. In way you can it was ahead of it’s time. The phone looks quite sleek with navy blue body colour, chrome silver buttons and buffed silver body line. However the designers were in a bad mood when they designed the number buttons for this phone , round buttons push the design the phone towards the ugly side. The front of the phone looks good with glass finish on screen and by the buttons. A secondary video call VGA camera is located above the display screen. The phone can carry the casual and business look with ease. It is quite sturdy as well.
The 256k colors TFT screen on phone is top notch, but it could have been bigger. Display is optimum but gets a pixelised while showing pictures of larger quality(4000 x 3000 pixels). The interface present in the phone is user friendly and a regular sony user will have no problem handling the phone. It uses a regular OSE operating system. Memory is expandable only to 2 GB which is a disappointment.
The K810 sports a 3.15 megapixel camera with auto focus and xenon flash. Open the camera cover and the phone literally transforms into a digicam. The keypad turns into a assist to help the adjust the flash, focus, auto click, zoom and pixel size directly from the keypad. One warning however, whenever you go to camera album folder to see the pictures you have clicked, make sure the pixels on the picture has cleared and picture is crystal clear. At times the mixes few photos from the album and it ruins your original photograph.
The phone can be used for browsing internet and check your mail at fair speed. It has 3G compatibility but only upto 384 kbps. The secondary camera picture quality is ok but it can be used only for video calls unlike Nokia N73, so forget about self clicked pictures from that camera.
Sony had always been the best player when it comes to sound and this is not an exception with K810i. It supports MP3, AAC and MP4 formats. Divx Player could have been welcomed with open arms. Sound quality is good in handsfree and makes a good music company while travelling. Even though the sound quality is good but speaker volume is quite low compared to competing Nokia phones. This makes using loudspeaker for phone calls or listening to music quite difficult.
It comes with a standard 950mAh Li-Po battery(BST-33). On a full charge the phone can go for a complete day and half if you are listening to music and standard texting and phone conversations. However on Intensive testing that includes surfing the net, long phone conversations, continuous texting , clicking pictures, Bluetooth transfers, listening to music the battery can last till the end of the day. The battery has typical sony reliability it charges quickly and can last longer.
There had been no problems of phone coming to a standstill or anything as such but USB compatibility with your PC may check your patience. Overall the phone is good and keeps up with Sony cybershot heritage So if guys need a phone with good camera, great flash, nice sound with decent volume and don’t mind your pockets getting 10k lighter then this the phone is Thumbs up.
