I have read the above reviews and realised that no one has yet had a problem with the phone.I do.I bought this phone 30th dec-07.The phone is a really good piece of hardware. The feature list is really long and build quality is good. But the pseudo chrome finish on the phone keeps chipping off, and as of now, my camera button looks pale white plastic as opposed to the chrome finish.
The phone occasionally hangs and restarts, IF youre lucky.Otherwise youve to remove the battery because the power button doesnt work. The handwriting recognition is hardly useful as it recognises only a single alphanumeric(No, m not being unreasonable, nokias handwriting recognition does whole words.Believe it.)
Sometimes when I connect with wifi, the phone as I said before, restarts.God knows why.Its reasonably fast at the outset, bogs down as you begin to use more of the memory. Cameras strictly okay, but most people who buy this dont do this for the camera. The multifunction qwerty keyboard works surprisingly well for messages and emails. But people with broad fingertips are adviced to stay away from it.
Touch-screen need you to be a bit harder than you might think.Unlike the iphone or lg or nokias 5800 or... everything else really.Batterys good for a uiq smartphone.I can make it last a day full of calls, emails, occasional music and video.Which is pretty good considering its got a big touchscreen to support.
Call quality is good.Reception even in hard to reach areas is good.I tested it with a moto razr, nokias e71 and SE own w380i.I havent used 3g because it isnt available in India.
It doesnt support HSDPA.Who cares?India doesnt have it either.Overall this phone WOULD have been a decent buy.I had a problem with it last december(2008).The jog-dial(the wheel at the side of the phone for navigation) refused to work.It worked in fits and starts, sometimes not scrolling, somtimes 5-6 lines at a stretch.I thought maybe it would sort itself out after a restart as it usually does with this phone. But it didnt.
I finally had time to get to a service centre only in jan.By which time, my warranty had expired(big mistake).I had looked up the internet during that time, where many people have had this problem with dust whereby they got it fixed by opening the phone themselves and cleaning it.Me, m no hardware-wizard and most of all, I did not want to void my warranty which by then was non-existent anyways.
So anyways I get to a Sony-ericsson authorised service centre. They take the phone give me a job slip. Two weeks slip by, they dont call.I make the call, enquiring the state of the phone. They say they need more time.Another week.
They still want more time.Another week and m tired.I call them up and blast them for their incompetence. The next day they call up and say it cant be fixed.I asked them to change whatever they needed to, that I just wanted my phone working.Still, they stubbornly maintained they couldnt fix it.Went to another SE service centre, same bull shi*.
I emailed them, as of now its been 2 weeks since, I still havent gotten a reply.Called up their call centre, now they want me to go to the service centre and then call these people at the call centre so that they can talk to these people at the service centre.Freaking stupid, eh??Thats what I thought.
In conclusion, my friends... what m trying to say is this:IF youve not had a problem with your phone or youve had it fixed easily, youre one of the lucky ones. This is a great product, ruined by the people who work for them under certified names. As things stand, ve lost round 1500k towards two changed jog-dials and still not resolved the problem.
They say its some problem with the ic or its liquid locked or something else. What I still tell them is, change any damn thing you want!To which they reply they cant.I will be contacting consumer court pretty soon.I will let you guys know what happens soon enough.
