I might be late writing this review as I bought this phone last year(Nov 2006) and within this period a lot of new phones have been launched.
Anyway, I am still writing this as I have pushed my W700i to the limit and this phone deserves a review.
To start with, this is a true world class phone. I am presently in US and using this phone here without any problems. Thanks for the bands of operation it supports. I showed this masterpiece to my client here and he seemed to be in awe.(U know Americans are far behind in cell-phone technology).
When I was to buy a phone, I wanted it to play MP3, have FM, have Camera, Bluetooth, Infrared, better look, etc and this phone gave me all. I researched on Sony Ericsson site and also read the reviews here. Thanks guys for helping me choose this.(Bought this for 12K with 512Mb card. Looks like its around 9K these days.)
I would like to keep it short as features, technical details, etc can be found on SE website. The only thing I am addressing here is W700i’s uasbility.
From a users’s perspective, its all-in-one phone. And if you don’t have extravagant demands, well.you won’t need any other phone for the rest of your life(unless the technology changes).
Now some of the drawbacks are:
No OS(this phone has no Operating System, so you can only run java based applications on this and there aren’t many for this phone)
Hangs sometimes, esp. when you are playing the Walkman and clicking pictures/playing games.(i.e. when pushed to limits)
Does not allow extra space to store SMSes.
Camera is too good, but you need to keep your hand still while clicking.
The sound from speakers is not loud enough to entertain a large group and the battery drains too fast when doing this.
I rate this phone 9/10 for satisfaction at personal level.
My next phone will be a PDA, and I hope that gives me all what this phone lacks.
