Walkman keeps you walking!

You have Rs 15 K in your pocket and you want a phone that offers everything. Possible?, Oh yes it is, For lesser than that! Sony Ericsson brings to you W700i. I must say I do not see much of a difference between the W800i and W700i. I think W800i was discontinued and released as w700i(some kind of marketing strategy to promote W810i).

Music is amazing, Puts you in the middle of the action. Set it to the Mega Bass mode and you can’t hear anything but the music around you! The camera is pretty good(compared to Nokia 3250). Phone has a TFT screen. Phone is pretty handy and useful. Hands-free is real good. some users may not like using the hands-free as it changes the profile automatically to Port Hands-free. Signal reception is pretty good. I have not faced any issues with signal yet. Voice clarity is good.

I love the camera function. It becomes a digital camera when you want to use it as a camera. Pictures are pretty clear and flash is very effective. You can adjust brightness before the picture is taken. It does not have auto focus which was present in the w800i but that’s not a big deal.

Connectivity is good. Bluetooth keeps you connected to almost everything else. Phone comes with a USB cable and software CD. Phone comes with a 256MB memory stick. When connected to USB it appears as a storage device on the PC. File transfer is as simple as transferring from a Pen drive.

However, you might not get the ease of a Nokia phone on this. This phone does not have EDGE, so you do not get to use it without a SIM in it :-(. You can not create profiles the way you want them to be. If you set a ring-tone for one profile, it sets for all profiles. The voice recorder function can irritate you sometimes as it keeps asking for a quieter environment(no matter how quiet your surroundings are). You do not get to choose the reminder alarm in the calendar. One big disadvantage is that the Alarm rings according to the profile you are in! So if you forget to put your phone in normal mode(from quiet mode), you may never hear the alarm ring and you are late for office!.

A note on the battery backup. It’s not amazing but manageable. I use the phone day in and day out with music and camera; battery lasts a day or so.

All in all, I would recommend this phone. It’s Value for money. It offers a lot of functions for a reasonable price price ( Rs 13200). Don’t buy an MP3 player or a digicam, buy an SE w700i J
