W 700i - The first of the Walkman series in India is a’Gem’of a Smart phone. Its a beautifully packaged, Quality product from the house of SONY.
Now lets get on with the features.
It has 2 MP camera(with lens cover.cool is’nt it) with 4x zoom and video recording capabilities including easy photo sharing through Sony Ericsson’s QuickShare solution. Although the later models(w810i) had autofocus too; this model lies in sync with K750i. Inface the chasis is 99% same. More drilling into the camera reveals, its strength is its clarity(of course what else do u expect in a camera?!). Its clarity is better than the 2MP Nokia 6300!. But sadly the response time is bit slow. Also the saving time to memory card takes time.
Second most striking feature of the phone is the walkman player. Integrated Walkman player converts the W700i into a portable MP3, MPEG-4, and H.263 player with full functionality. Oh my God!.what an effect it has in ear phones! the bass is booming, the trebles are chirping.the mid-range is jus perfect. very good feature indeed. It has 5 equlizer settings includong the trademark MEGABASS feature and a manual EQ. Unfortunately the sound quality with MEGABASS ON is touch down in Speaker mode.
Large 262K color LCD display(176 x 220 px). I think this phone deserves a bigger screen, though nothing is at fault with the present. Howver comparing it with a N71/72, u feel let down in size!
And about the memory, it ahs 34.0 MB internal storage and Memory Stick Duo card removable memory for extra storage(256 MB included). A word of note here, this phone unofficialy supports 2 GB card. I ve put an 1 GB and it works fine. u can transfer hours and hours of music in it; very good for long journeys.
This phone jus scores in connectivity. yes, jus awesome. It has Bluetooth, Infrared port, Modem, Synchronisation, USB mass storage, USB support. Turn on the bluetooth and jus transfer at will. its wonderful.
Coming to technology, It is a GPRS, class 2 enabled phone with J2ME MIDP 2.0 support for application, ringer, wallpaper, graphic and game downloads including 3D gaming. it supports WAP 2.0 for internet viewing.
Design is what I feel its a bit of a let down. Very conventional looks. But Joysticjk is one aspect u ll love to use. Its better than the K750i model. very user friendly interface is a big plus point. The phone is quite heavy, esp when u change from Samsung or Moto phones. but it has a pupose. I ve already put it down 3 times in 5 months and its jus the same except for some minor scratches. Once even the memory card and battey cover came out.but its so soldily bulit, nothing happened.
Battery: The Battery is reasonably good for a smart phone like this. The company claims the talk time as 9 hrs and Stand by time as 400 hrs. I think it lived up to its saying. Its better than its predecssor K750i.
Other features include; Alarm clock, Calculator, Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Phone book, Stopwatch, Tasks, Timer, Email, Picture messaging(MMS), Predictive text input, Sound recorder, Photo light, Speakerphone etc.This Light here is very powerful.jus c its luminiscence when power goes out.wow.my mom takes out a Emergency latern/Candle with its help only!
Overall, its a Very good phone. Yes as all phones have certain drawbacks it too has.It doesnt have the sleekness of a MOTO or the Cuteness of a Samsung, but it has Guts in it. Guts to take on anything u put against. If u dont mind compromising for looks, if u r an avid music lover, an enthu photographer, Look nowhere else.this is the phone for u.
