I was looking for a cell phone. The two basic requirements which I wanted for sure were a good talk time & excellent music player. After considerable evaluations, I purchased SE W 710i.
The feel of holding Sony Ericsson W 710i in your palm was thrilling. It is small, clamshell twin, it’s compact yet sturdy cell phone and fits exactly in your palm. The SE W 710i measures 88 by 48 by 24.5 mm, and weights 102 grams .The rubber casing on the top and the words walkman engraved in white on right side give it a handsome look. On the rubber casing are mounted the media controls which enable you to operate the walkman player and radio without opening the clamshell. The cell phone sports a walkman symbol on the top. On your extreme right are the volume keys and the key which enable you to instantly access the camera function.
The cell has a huge display on the front measuring about 1.5 inches with series of icons. The display offers you basic info on calls, messages, signal, sports applications & music player. The unique feature of this display is that it adopts Monochrome technology with Orange background. The advantage of Monochrome technology is that you can clearly read the display even in the sunlight. Above this display you will find a 2 mega pixel camera embedded with a sleek metallic ring around it. As one opens the flap a 1.9 inches 262 k( TFT) internal color display welcomes you. The key pad has nicely spaced keys, with four way navigation keys and two special keys for walkman player and internet. The key pad is well illuminated in orange background & fairly visible in darkness.
The cell phone is loaded with series of fitness applications and is immensely useful while training. The cell has motion sensors and all you have to do is tie the unit to your hand or belt and start exercising. The phone captures data while running or walking like speed, distance travelled, number of steps taken, calories consumption and so on . The device comes with specially designed arm band and plastic case which enables you to attach the unit to your arms / belt while training.
SE W 710i has a fabulous music and video player . The sound clarity is excellent and miles ahead of Nokia phones . The phone has built-in walkman player which supports MP 3, MP 4, 3 GP, AAC, AAC+, AMR, IMY, EMY and WAV formats. . The cell offers stereo widening and has a equalizer with functions like Bass, Mega Bass, Voice & treble boost It has FM radio and can store up to 20 radio stations. Play Now option offers you to listen to music before you purchase and download it to our phone . The cell has music DJ and Video DJ which enables you to compose and create your own music & Video clips.
In terms of connectivity the phone has GPRS, RSS, Infra red port and Bluetooth 2.0 . The unit can be synchronized with PC and USB cable is provided as a standard. The updated USB-connection function is innovative. You need to choose beforehand whether files on memory card will be accessed or not(data transfer mode). In the former case, the device shuts down, so you’re able to browse memory card and in the latter one you are offered various USB settings for accessing the network. In other words the handset transforms into a modem. The cell can be used as a remote control for PC. The voice command feature can be activated by a Magic word option without pressing the keys.
The memory easily accomodates about 1000 contacts with completely filled fields. Apart from the above the cell has all standard features which are present in most of phones in this class like Organizer, Themes, Alarm, integrated file manager, vibracall, polyphony tones, Speed dialing, Automatic redial, Messaging, Dictaphone, Stop watch, Calculator, 3DGames, Flight mode and many others.The unit comes with 512 Micro SD memory stick which can be expanded up to 1 GB.
On the flip side –
- Screen size could have been larger.
2. The loudspeaker volume is just right however could have been louder at peak settings.
The 2 MP Camera offers host of settings but picture quality is just average.
No Auto Focus capability.
The Zoom function needs to be enhanced and flash should have been provided.
The SE W 710i is an excellent phone offering cutting edge technology in fitness applications. It is powered by BST 37 900M Ah battery which lasts for 350 hours in standby mode and close to amazing 10 hours of talk time . The cell phone is light; it is compact, well designed, great looks and is equipped with series of features making it a great value for money proposition. The cell is fully loaded with walkman player and sound quality is just awesome. Go for it ….
