Excellent Phone which can be used as a smartphone

I’ve been using the W810i since the last 2 months and am really impressed with it. The OS is very responsive, excellent music quality and a good camera(for both day and night photography, if you use the White Balance properly). What amazes me is the EDGE capability. I use it to dial-up using Airtel’s Mobile Office and usually get around 90-110 kbps(faster than my Sify Broadband at times!).

INTERNET: Excellent for internet browsing because of it’s EDGE capabilities. Airtel’s Mobile Office usually gives around 90-110 kbps. Built-in browser is good and supports XHTML, CSS and Javascript. I could do my online banking transactions in a jiffy without any hiccups. but I prefer Opera Mini

*Install the freely available J2ME applications and lo. u r on the go. I’ve the following apps installed:

1. **Gmail Mobile App( http://www.gmail.com/app)

  1. Talkonaut(Google Talk Jabber Client)

  2. EQO mobile(for Skype, MSN, Yahoo and GTalk)

  3. Google Maps mobile(They’ve great Delhi maps now)

  4. Opera Mini - the best mobile web-browser around

  5. Mobile Mail - for other POP3 mail accounts.

Best thing about this phone is that u can have your Java apps running in the background which can be accesses thru the shortcut button.

WALKMAN

The Walkman buttons are very well placed and the bundled earphones and the travel speakers are very impressive. Sound Quality is excellent. MegaBass is enjoyable

CAMERA

Good 2MP camera with autofocus and Xenon flash. Macro mode is very effective for extreme close-ups. Night photography is not bad if you use the proper White Balance settings.

*EMAIL

*In-built client get my POP mails. To send Gmail, you need to install the Thwarte Certificates. Support SSL/TSL.

SYNCHRONIZATION

Easy sync of contacts and calender over the internet with ZYB.

*MEMORY

*In-built 20 megs is sufficient for applications you install. phone comes bundled with a 512 MB Memory stick Pro Duo. can be expanded to 2 GB

NAVIGATION:

Sony Ericsson’s departure from the joystick is a welcome move. This phone does not have a joystick but a 4-way navigation with a ccenter-button. SE’s joysticks have always been a problem.

CONNECTIVITY

Apart from EDGE, it has both Bluetooth and Infrared(Something that Nokia do not give together in phones of this price range). The 810i can also be used as a USB drive without installing any drivers.

VOICE QUALITY

In one word - Excellent

BATTERY LIFE

I could not measure it accurately as my phone is used excessively for music and he internet. It connects to my mail server to download my office mails every 10 minutes and this drowns the batteries fast. I don’t mind though as I can charge it with the USB cable through my laptop. So when i’m using it as my modem, the laptop keeps on charging the phone.

*Contrary to your product specs publised in the Product Overview, this phone has Timer, Stopwatch, Speakerphone, Conference, Voice Dial, Hands Free Mic.
