SONY GN99 - Deadly Home Theater System

I have purchased Sony GN-99 system along with Sony wega 29 inch color TV hoping to complete the picture for a ’Home theater system in a Box’. Prior to buying this combo, I have seen all the brands in the market - Sony, LG, Samsung, Panasonic, Philips.

Philips was perhaps the cheapest ( both in price as well as my confidence in long term quality delivery).

LG/Samsung were also there. I found that the picture quality of Panasonic was as good as Sony.

The balance was tilted to Sony for the simple reason that the service network for Sony is far better ( in my perception). The system plays DVD, VCD, MP3, Audio cassettes, FM.

Sound quality delivered is superb ( ofcourse with original DVDs the effect is multiple times better). Some of the Cons: - Does not play DivX , MPEG - 4 formats - If the CD has both mp3 and JPEG files, it recognises only JPEGs and shows the same. some of my friends advised me to buy components of home theater and ’BUILD’ the system, so to speak.

The reason I didn’t do so was becoz I thought buying components, integrating them, getting them serviced from multiple vendors is too much of an inconvenience.

So my friends, the story ends here with Sony 29inch Wega TV + GN 99 system to make them a Home theater in a Box. Please drop a line on your comments/views on the above
