I actually didn?t quite know this product existed at mouthshut so wasn?t quite able to write a review on it. Now that I have read some of the rvu?s on this I also thought to write on it. So here goes:
Sony has always been my personal favourite in the category of Electronic equipments which is why I always wanted to purchase an electronic item with a SONY tag attached to it. No wonder Sony?s products are somewhat costly compared to others but then IT?S A SONY and No I am not doing publicity for Sony.. Anyways now let me write a few lines about the product for which I m writing the rvu.
It has been over 4 years when my dad bought me this CD system and its performing gr8 since then. I got it at a price tag of Rs.16, 500/- (quite costly HUH!). At first I wanted to go for some other company?s product becoz at this price tag I was getting more output and free goodies also(in the form of Audio Cassettes, CD?s etc). But my dad insisted to go for Sony and since then it has been a gr8 decision.
Sony MHC GX 2000 comes fully equipped with 3 CD changer, Radio, Twin Cassette player, 2000 watts output and a full function remote control.
Other functionalities are:
=>Time set. This is mostly available in all CD systems now but I m talking about 4 years back.
=>The display is green coloured with different colours like yellow, orange which are visible when different equalizer spectrums are selected. U get to choose from 4 different spectrums. And then there is also a display off option in case u want to save power.
=> Different Audio Emphasis (Equalizer) settings. This option helps in selecting the sound characteristic according to the music u r listening too. U get to choose from the following preset equalizer modes for the sound settings?Game, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Dance, Soul, Oriental, Action, Drama, SF. There is also an option of setting our own equalizer setting titled under User File. 4 way selection key is present on the front panel for these adjustments.
=>Other Sound effects like Surround sound and Groove. In Groove the power output increases with extra beats in the background. All this settings are present on the front panel of the audio system.
=>Recording from Tape, CD and Radio is possible. Since the Karaoke option is present we can also sing along the music and record it. The tape B serves a dual purpose- for playback as well as recording.
=>Recording can also be done by selecting particular track from a particular CD. The selection is displayed in which the number of songs selected, the CD which is used and the total time of selected track is shown. We can also check the most suitable tape length automatically for recording from a CD.
=>Radio stations can be saved, automatically tuned and selected as required. It saves station by its name. Example if the radio is tuned to some FM radio station then it will be saved with the name Preset FM 1. etc..
=>DJ Effects. DJ effects like Looping and Flashing are present. In looping the part of the song is kept on repeating everytime we press the loop control. And in flashing the sound appears as if split. Loop length as well flash length can be set with setting starting from 1 to 20. We can also use both the looping and flashing together. Well everytime I tried to use this setting I found only flash working. So it requires a precise selection of both the effects at the same time. Its good that I m not a DJ?Mind u this settings are present only for CD not for cassette.
=>CD?s and tracks can be played in random order by selecting Shuffle. Alternatively CDs can also be programmed to play only particular tracks. Similar to making a playlist of songs in the computer. The only difference is here we can program only about 30 tracks. Repeat is also present. Pressing the Repeat button on the front panel will do the job. It can also be selected from the remote control.
=>Similarly a Skipping song in Tapes is also possible. Using different controls we can skip tracks forward or backward. There is a thing called AMS (Automatic Music Sensor) present in this system which allows the numbers of songs being skipped in both the direction.
=>Sleep timer, Daily Timer are present. In the sleep mode the time at which u automatically want to turn off the system can be selected starting from 10 upto 90 mins and then Auto which turns off the system when the currently played CD or Cassette is finished. The Daily Timer can be set to let ur system work as an Alarm for u to wake u up with ur favorite track. A unique function which I have never used as yet.
=>The other common features available are connecting MD deck using an optical cable (also for listening music), VCR connections, VCD connections by which u get the stereo sound of 2000 Watts while watching ur favorite movie or TV serial.
=>Finally u get a system manual with all the precautions, connections and description of each and every function also including a few pages on trouble shooting.
=>The audio system being having a microcomputer in it also has a master reset control which when pressed (the stop, enter and power buttons pressed together constitute the master reset) will reset the system and all the settings that u made like preset stations, clock will be cleared. Of course these can be set once again.
Troubles I have faced while using:
Well not too many troubles I have faced in these years I have been using this system. They are:
=>One time I had to change the Tape belt.
=>One another disadvantage of this system is that it makes a lot of noise while selecting the tape functions like playing, stopping, rewinding etc.
=>And for more than hour or two hour usage the display gets warmer.
=>Everytime u plug the system off the mains the clock gets cleared and we have to set it again which is quite a problem.
Conclusion:
All in all a great system to own although somewhat heavy but after all ?It?s a SONY?. As usual please do RRC my rvu?
