I bought Sony PS3 for my son in July 2013. It worked for 2 years. After 2 years, it started hanging in between the games frequently. A couple more months later, it will not power on at all.
We went to the Sony authorised service center and they said they will not open and fix it. They said that after 2 years they have a scheme of, "You can give back the not-working PS3 and buy a new one at 25% discounted price". Within 2 years if we go with a problem, we can get a new one at 50% discounted price. We can see that they are only trying to sell an additional PS3 taking advantage of the difficult situation of the customer!
We bought the PS3 for Rs 19500 and spent more than Rs 10000 for all the CDs. Totally we have spent more than Rs 30000 - 35000 on the whole setup. And it konks off after 2 years and a few months. And absolutely no service support. For a setup costing this high, it should normally be serviceable for at least 4/5 years. And, look at the solution they are offering - shell out another 15000 and buy a new one from them in exchange for the old one! SONY is cheating people.
The console is also not user friendly at all. For this cost, the console should have some means of showing user friendly error descriptions instead of going into a hung state.
In summary the product is totally not worth at all. The setup is a pile of junk on my desk now.
