I have recently had a terrible experience with Sony ( as of now it is an ongoing nightmare ). I have a Sony Vaio that was purchased in Dubai about 2 years ago . Last week the computer did not start . Analysis by the computer company that handles the AMC
showed that the motherboard was malfunctioning and needs to be replaced . Naturally , they approached Sony india on my behalf . And later I spoke with Sony’s "Service" centre in Bombay . The bizarre reply was that this model is not retailed in India + papers are not available.
So Sony india will not repair the laptop even for a fee . This is by far the most ridiculous , customer insensitive , irresponsible stance that a global brand like Sony can have .
I have asked them what they expect the consumer to do -
or
Sony’s Service Centre in Mumbai does not seem to think it necessary to reply to customer emails .
As things stand today I am strugging to find a solution .
My suggestion to anyone contemplating buying a Sony Vaio - pl think very carefully . If your work involves travel and your laptop malfunctions you could be denied service on the grounds of the bizarre policies of Sony . The problem is further compounded by the fact that a lot of the components are proprietary . So , you could find yourself in a situation where - Sony will not repair your product . And no one else can ...
( if you have a Vaio and you plan to travel - whether you carry your ticket or not - pl do carry your warranty card and papers to negotiate with the Sony Service Centre in whichever part of the world you happen to be in )
(I have used Compaq products previously and received service in Japan , S.Korea from the Compaq service centres without any problems )
