Six months after using the SE J300i, I want to share my feelings about this phone on the pages of Mouthshut.
MYSELF : I am an Eye Surgeon aged 50 who wants to keep a cellphone as a means of contact, with just a bit of fun thrown in. Do not need low quality camera or MP3 player bundled along.
WHY THIS PHONE : Basically three things -- Great features, 12 MB memory & Low price. Also being of an older, slower, softer generation; I found this small, slim, curvaceous phone attractive. It is still the best basic colour mobile with GPRS & without camera. Nokia 6030 & 6021 are good but have only about 3.5 MB memory. No other phone in this category can come into comparison.
DISPLAY : Not very bright, but quite ok. Some excellent themes are there, I have downloaded many more from SE site. It suppoorts JPEG & GIF pictures but themes are main attractions.
SOUND : MP3 & MIDI are tones are supported. Majority of ringtones are very good. Actually my mobile tones are something to listen as well as be heard(without envy of course).
RECEPTION : OK-- even at my age with failing faculties I have no problem outdoors in the midst of traffic.
BATTERY : Lasts 3 days with moderate use. Listening to tones & gaming reduces it drastically though.
WHAT I LIKE : Extensive contact information & ability to make sms groups are two features which are to my satisfaction. Notes, Tasks & Calendar are the features which are excellent & save a forgetful old man like me from embarassment -- they are the ones I like & use most.
NAVIGATION : Like all new gadgets, it needs some perseverence to learn. I am not daunted by a few button presses & now things are quite simple. Many people are afraid of joystick as it has to be handled carefully -- being accustomed to handling fine instruments I never found it a problem.
I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE : Better looking keypads would have been really great. Also there is a small problem during SMS, that I have to format text anew everytime if I want to veer from the preset style -- I cannot save my own preferences for future use.
