The story starts with a flashback showing 1958- a team of astronauts named Daedalus, who should have been the first americans to go into space. However, things dont work out that way and a chimp gets the honour of zooming into Space-The Final Frontier.
The next thing is they show the whole team the way they are at present. Clint Eastwood (Frank Corvin), Tommy Lee Jones (Hawk), (Tank) James Garner, and (Jerry) Donald Sutherland. One being a Baptist at a church, another a babe magnet even at his ripe age. A small time private plane operator and the other simply retired. The order is not the same, so you can guess who is who.
The NASA needs their help as IKON , a Russian Communication Satellite which has used the old timers design; is in trouble and the present whiz kids are unable to decipher the problem. The outdated languages and other mechanisms are only understood by the Dateless team- the creator. Frank Corvin (Clint) insists that the whole of Daedalus team goes up and not the current astronauts. They pass the simulators, health stuff and do the rest of the training nicely but with a little groan and a moan here and there.
The second part must be seen, it is really good. I am not gonna spoil it for you. So go ahead and watch the movie. The actors are reallllly brilliant. It is worth the ticket money just to see all of them together. The picturisation, direction is excellent. The special effects very realistic. The whole team has done a wonderful job.
The movie is delicately sprinkled with good humor. Laughable and one would enjoy the little remarks made here and there. . Just made me wonder, imagine Sean connery with them and you have the Three Musketeers, each being the Don Juan for women.
All in all, a good movie if you dont mind watching old-timers and have a broad mind enough to see them as heroes instead of the usual young boys. Definitely not an Armageddon but I can be positive when I say its a Clint Eastwood movie to its mark.
