I have been using Airtel broadband in Bangalore for >4 years.Had only a few issues. When I moved to suburb area , I had very limited choice of ISP as Airtel was not covering there. The cable TV operator then provided spectranet connection(1mBPS/Rs800).This is a prepaid system and no landphone.
1.Frequent disconnection : the modem is fitted on the top floor of the building where some one else is staying. They disconnect the modem power when they need the socket point for something else to plug and I have to contact them each time and beg to connect it back !.if the power fails then modem is off anyway and no connection.other than it network issues. So every day some problem or the other.
2.Customer support : If calling spectranet when the cable guy is not reachable or not responding , they ask to contact the cable guy again - they are care less , not even listening to the complaint and hangup. Dont call them or you get in tension.
3.Its a prepaid system , so what ever problems with net connectivity , it is already paid and no place to argue.
4.Speed is as per plan when ever connected.
5.The IP is static , so problem with many download sites as the download slot is restricted per IP.In DSL like airtel , one can always reset modem and get a new / dyn IP and download again.
6.Cables are drawn overhead - from terrace to terrace , so not reliable.
Go for it if you have no alternative and need the net disparately .
