I remember seeing ’Speed’ when it first came out in 1994. Me, along with some of my family, went to the movie theater to see it. Just looking at the poster grabbed my attention. The bus with flames surrounding it and a close up to Jack Traven. I became an instant fan of Keanu’s when I saw this film. I was aware of some of his work before like ’Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’, which put him on the map and ’Point Break’. But this was his best yet. He proved in this movie that he is an incredible action star.
’Get Ready For Rush Hour’. ’Speed’ is probably one of the greatest actions films of all time. The story was amazing. A bus set to explode if it drops below 50 M.P.H. with hostages on the bus. It really grabs your attention, especially the title. The whole cast was great. There were some very cool effects as well. The bus jumping over a 50 foot gap. That’s just impossible to do, but not with some great special effects involved.
I loved how they introduced Jack and his partner, Harry, at the beginning, pulling up in the blue car. It just flew across the street! Jack being a breaking-the-law kind of guy. He’d do anything to save someone no matter what. Harry never really wanted to go that far. Annie is the one, while something bad os going on, who brings the humor with her remarks and comments. Their was some very good chemistry between Jack and Annie.
Keanu Reeves is a good actor and he really proved it in great film. He nailed the character down. Sorry to mention this, but he was HOT! Those muscles and that sexy haircut. I remember noticing after ’Speed’ was released, a lot of guys around where I live began getting haircuts like Keanu’s. Most people believe he’s a bad actor. I have to admit he does have abad film here and there sometimes, but he does do a good job. Dennis Hopper also does a great performance as Howard Paine, the ’mad bomber’. With his wise acting, he played the character perfectly. He has always been a great, legendary actor. Sandra Bullock fits the character, Annie, so well. She brings some really good humor to the film and her and Keanu look and act so well together.
Overall, this film just rocks! ’Speed’ has some crazy action with amazing special effects and a great cast of actors to help bring this thrill ride of a movie to life. I’m happy that it has a few Oscars under it’s belt. It totally deserved them. I highly recommend seeing this movie if you’re looking for an action packed film with a little humor and drama into it.
