Positive Review On Spice D-88n...

Picked up a spice d-88n in bangalore on 17th july 2008 @ sangeetha’s cmh road. I’m using virgin mobile prepaid service (cdma). I also use airtel gsm.

My initial observations were as follows:

  1. Virgin mobile was displaying as tata indicom.

  2. Outgoing sms on cdma was not possible.

  3. Call waiting / call diverting etc was not possible in cdma (virgin). It was dialing a wrong code.

  4. Battery draining pretty quickly.

  5. Signal reception on gsm slightly poor.

I scouted the internet for solutions...but no avail. Upon checking the spice website (https://spicemobile.in) i found their bangalore service centre @ dr. Rajkumar road, rajaji nagar.

I called up the mobile number and spoke to mr. Ravikumar. He was extremely helpful over the phone. I immediately seems to have understood the problems and asked me to come down. Upon reaching the place, i identified myself, to which he recollected it by name.

First thing, he taught me how to check up the software version on spice mobiles. In the normal screen, you have to press #66#. Automatically it showed the software version. He commented that i was using version 1.01_d dated 31-03-2008. Within 30 minutes, he updated the software to version 1.02_d dated 30-06-2008. After the software update, he immediately performed the factory restore to default option. The above service was absolutely free of cost. Do not forget to carry the bill.

Here are the improvements...

  1. I get the correct display name as virgin mobile.

  2. Cdma sms (outgoing) was possible.

  3. Call waiting / divertion was possible.

  4. Battery & reception much better (i feel so).

Overall, a good handset for dual stuff.

With warm regards,

Zulfiquar
