I just travelled on Spicejet - Pune - Bangalore - Pune last week. I had booked my tickets well in advance 9in month of May, to be precise.) And so could make it in just 949/- per direction. Journey from Pune tp Bangalore via a Volvo bus costs @1100/- & takes 16 hours. By plane, it takes just 80 minutes.
Well, my experience with Spicejet was good, since I wasn’t expecting much from a low cost airline. And I was pleasantly surprised And why not - timely departure & arrival, 80 minutes of safe journey - a few cookies and unlimited water (thanx to Bailley) . What else would you expect at Rs. 949?
Crew service is OK. The only problem is with announcements. They are not proper & audible. But still, no probs. The aircraft (Boeing) is also upto the mark - though both times I flew, I found the planes to be old. While going to Bangalore, my seat was just one row before turbine, so it was noisy, (but certainly not as noisy as Dakotas put in service by Air Deccan) .
Overall, if I get a chance to fly low cost, I would surely prefer Spice Jet.
One thing I found in this journey - person sitting next to you gets visibly irritated when he comes to know at what (low) cost you are travelling. When I got tickets for 949 (booked in May), a person next to me was travelling with the ticket worth 2500/- & while returning, my copassenger , who booked at the airport, had to pay 4500/-.
