I happened to book tickets for Delhi to Mumbai on Spicejet, but had to cancel the same owing to some rescheduling just to realize that Spicejet follows a ridiculous no refund policy. i.e. no cash refund for the tickets cancelled. They say we will have this credit on your account for one year from the date and you can utilize it for some other ticket on any sector. It took time for me to digest such a policy and wrote to their customer service just to hear that this clause was mentioned in fine print while I was booking the tickets over the net. Moreover, they charge a fee of Rs. 500 per passenger for cancellation and still do not refund the money.
I was quite taken aback by such a customer non-friendly policy. While I do understand the Rs. 500 cancellation fee, but not giving a refund is like a store owner who does very little business and is not ready to let away with even a rupee which comes to him as counter sale. Spice Jet management guess hasnt heard words like Corporate governance and CRM (Must be from some Tier 3 B School).
And let me tell you, its possible to get away with such policies in India in the current scenario - as demand is far exceeding the supply.
Even an alteration on the date or time would mean a fee of Rs. 500 per ticket plus the difference in fares.
