DEEP DISAPPOINTMENT: Spicejet is not worth it! I was traveling recently from DEL to HYD and checked in one Samsonite hard-side suitcase. The suitcase was delivered in HYD with the hard-side cracked and the handle broken. Obviously, it was damaged in handling by the airline. Now, such damage is not uncommon and I did not think much about it and decided to talk to the ground staff and seek compensation/replacement.
To my utter shock, the young lady at the counter decided NOT to even listen to me, and simply handed me a plain sheet of paper and said that I had to write a complaint letter to the airline and mail it. I did not accept this shoddy response and persisted on speaking to her superior (who, I was told, was not on site). Eventually the manager came and immediately instructed the young lady to provide the Baggage Irregularity Report for filling. I filled the form, and the manager took pictures of the damage. It was quite evident that the baggage was beyond repair, and it had to be replaced. The manager even mentioned the same on the Irregularity Report to his office.
After that, it has been a series of emails to the Customer Service to get them to respond. I was offered peanuts, ie Rs 1500 compensation for the baggage, which I refused to accept. Upon my insistence, Spicejet Cust Serv department offered Rs 3000 and some credit toward next flight. This does not even cover the cost of the suitcase!!! I suggested to Samsonite, that given their team’s report that the baggage is beyond repair, Spicejet must replace the bag. I was happy to send them the broken bag and they could do what they liked with it.
Unfortunately, Spicejet has not responded at all, and I am stuck with a broken bag, and out of pocket for a big sum.
I hope I don’t have to flu Spicejet again.
Moral of the story; if you have a bag which costs more than Rs 3000, DO NOT FLY SPICEJET
