Like many in my generation, to me, Spiderman is associated with Sunday afternoon television.I don’t know about others, but I just loved the Spidey cartoons.
Spider-man the film is set in post 9/11 New York.Peter Parker is a Science student who lives with his uncle and aunt.He gets pushed around by everyone.He adores next-door neighbour Mary Jane.MJ however has no time for him.On a trip to the University of Columbia, Parker gets busy taking pictures of MJ.Their group is in a room that stores spiders.MJ points out that one spider is missing.Nobody pays much attention.While no one is looking, Parker gets bitten by the missing spider.He gets a bad wound from it.
Meanwhile Peter meets his friend’s dad Mr Osborn whose company does work for the US military.A certain chemical has to be human-tested.Mr Osborn consumes the chemical himself and nearly dies of it.When he recovers he kills an employee.
From the next morning Peter starts to have spider powers and Mr Osborn becomes the Green Goblin.Peter wants to impress MJ.So he uses his strength for pro wrestling.He makes little money and loses his uncle to a carjacking.Before dying, uncle Ben talks to Peter about freedom and responsibility.
The rest of the film is about Peter’s struggles as Spiderman and his fight with Green Goblin/Mr Osborn.There is also some romance between Peter and MJ.
