Slap-stick puns on display

The Cola wars generally heat up during the summer times. And, silent killers become the two big player’s ’’other’’ brands- the likes of Sprite, Mirinda, Slice, Maaza, etc.

And, surprisingly, they click.

This ’’I don’t want to do’’ ad of SPRITE (from the Coca Cola company) is a HUGE pun on Mountain Dew- the new refreshing brand from the oppositte chamber of Pepsi. For those who didn’t know (like me) DEW is a real popular drink in the USA and other western countries. Infact, it is slowly but surely becoming so popular that Pepsi has had to launch several other flavours under the ’’DEW’’ label.

Anyway, back to the commercial. The commercial mocks the four ’’tough cool dudes’’ of Dew who are daredevils, and no challenge is good enough for them- but drinking a Dew gives more kicks that jumping off mountains. The Sprite ad mocks saying that Dew is for sissies, moreover, punning the name DEW and the punchline ’’Do the Dew’’- the person behind the counter saying ’’Do IT behind the bushes’’ implying ’’Doing the Dew (do)’’ is taking a leek!

The ad has its share of dry humour and moments, but somehow looks as an irritated brand’s efforts to make sure that the rival’s new product is a failure before launch. We have to wait and see whether DEW really kicks in high spirits in people!!!!
