Does ’summer’ rhyme with ’ice’?? May be in India it does. From Boro Plus to Sprite to 7 UP every body makes their products ’ICE’. Come summer the soft drink companys do all the icing of the cakes on their drinks.
First maybe its the Pepsi guys who get these really ’cool’ ideas from our heated up IIM graduates. They launched tara..tarra.. BLUE Pepsi during the World cup season. They knew blue is the colour Sourav sports and knew even better the whole India would follow too. I don’t know how the sales turned out but to me it looked like the spirit in the chemistry lab and to the other guy who was buying along with me - KEROSENE. When he said that, it really tasted kerosene to me. Hey!!!! Pepsi does will Coca Cola stay back???
When Thums up had Salman then Pepsi teased them with his dupe. When Thums up said GROW UP, Cyrus said it was nothing up Grow Up Tonic and Pepsi is for the youth. So why the heck will coke wait?? WAIT KYE KO ?? WACKAO BOLO!!!! They roped in Vivek for their Vanilla Coke. It smelled like a chweing gum but it didn’t stick onto anybody’s My Favourite list.
Now the greats said, ’’ Rejoice !!! this year it is ICE ’’. I think the two greats one for 7 UP the other for Sprite have come from the hot deserts of Rajasthan or they might have worked for Boro Pus ICE before ’coz they both thought of the same idea ie. to ice their drinks with sodium citrate (ok ok lemon and antartic ice - if thats what they say).

Being a great fan of Sprite I watched the Sprite Ice ad and thought why the generally ’Just Pyaas Bhujayee’ drink is following the others in gimmicks. So immediately I went out and brought home this 500ml Sprite Ice. I was so excited to drink it along with the chicken biryani and mom made. I didn’t purposely open it as soon as I sat on the table b’coz as you all know anything if waited for long tastes better. The biryanimade by mother turned out to be accidently very hot. So I opened fast the Blue coloured bottle (Sprite is actually green).
The initial fizz sounded like Sprite (of course all drinks sound the same - I drink Sprite mostly) so I thought there isnothing special about this. And when I drank it my mouth which is already burning hot just grew all that tingled and burnt that I shouted. I thought ya this is with any drink Sprite Ice or not never drink when your mouth is burning....
============================================ My 14 yr old brother said the drink is giving him an extra cold feeling in his throat. My father who doesn’t fall for these gimmicks sarcastically laughed and said it is just your psychological feeling. My toungue couldn’t actually fell this at first instance. But later I too felt this tingling feeling. It tasted bitter. It tasted like....Ya I tasted it somewhere....Ya Ya peppermint. It tastes like peppermint.
Thats the REASON 1)my brother had that extra cold feeling 2)to me it tasted bitter 3)my tounge burnt all that hot. Sprite ICE tastes like Sprite with lots of peppermints added in it. Psst.. Psst.. Lots and lots of peppermints taste bitter. But whatever it might me I drank the whole bottle b’coz firstly I didn’t want to give it to my brother and secondly it doesn’t taste all that bad - it doesn’t taste so bad that you leave. So whats left with you now is.....
.........A very rare blue coloured SPRITE bottle you can add to your colection of Vanilla Cokes and Kerosene oil Pepsi err.. sorry .. Blue Pepsis. Hey the cap too has Sprite ICE printed on it another colecter item like the White Vanilla Coke cap. Hey to tell the truth you are left with that GHANTI BHAJGAYA feeling when the next time you see the warm Sprite..sorry ordinar Sprite ad.
Hey but please do try it if you like that minty mint feeling ’coz some people like it. It is surely making business outside but most didn’t like it. I’m giving it a three star b’coz i’m a Sprite fan and its offspring does surely have some of its genes.
