I went to Sri Lanka last year and the motivation was a deadly offer from Sri Lanka Airlines-Buy a return ticket and get 5 night stay with breakfast in any five star hotel...The return ticket is cheaper than Delhi-Goa- Delhi...The service in the plane is superb...food divine and it is better than many of the European airlines....We arrived in Srilanka and drove to Bentota and checked in to the Taj property...The resort is superb and food great...if you like spicy food try Sri Lankan cuisine...It is deadly(pun unintended)...The beaches are clean and crystal clear water...You wont know how time will fly...Taxis are cheap...You get big SUVs and it is best to hire them...Approximately 1200 srilankan rupees....Take a stroll in the town and you will bump into locals who are friendly and just start chatting with you...One guy showed us the entire village and also took us for a boat ride in the lake...It was superb...They ask a lot of questions about your family and what you do...they are not infringing on your privacy but asking simple things coming straight from the heart...It is a great experience taking a walk with a local...you can buy lovely carvings done by hand at reasonable rates(just haggle a lot with smile on your face)...Another place to visit is Candy....You see Elephants of all shapes and sizes...If lucky you can even hug a small elephant....Dont think just pack your bags and go...But avoid Colombo...It is just another city but you get good clothes of all major brands and unheard of prices(I am sure you will buy more than what your bags would carry and you will end up buying suitcases also to carry the stuff)...Two good places to shop...Odel and House of Fashion...Bon Voyage
