Sridevi..The name spells excellence.
Think of her and a magnetic personality is what you will remember her as.
The number of movies she has acted in ..I really dont know whether anyone knows that.
Every film industry she came to , she captured the hearts of the audience of all age groups.
I am a malayali and therefore I had the good fortune of watching a black and white movie in which she starred. She was just 3 year old then. I dont remember the name but the entire movie revolved around her. The movie was about how Sridevis mother dies and leaves her in the care of her neighbour. The neighbour ill treats this poor child and makes her do all the household chores. One day she meets a gentle man and his wife who yearn for children and they like this cute baby and adopts her by paying the wicked neighbour woman. There are lots of plots within the tale but what I was amazed was the acting. This girl who is just 3 years old held me spell bound. You feel for the child. The hardship she endures.
If a person can act they way she did when she was 3, its just no wonder that she turned out to be such a great actor.
She actually held her own in a male dominated industry. People wrote scripts with her in mind. She has done the most number of double roles. She can do comedy, action, romantic and all other roles in between. The range she has displayed in films like Sadma, Lamhe, Judaii, Laadla, Gumraah, Chaalbaaz, Chandni, Khuda Gawah etc.
Her command over costume, sets etc is impeccable. She made her share of mistakes and learnt from it. She evolved into a better looker and better actor.
The most amazing part of her personality is in reality she is very soft-spoken and she has always gained more recognition in roles where she is very outgoing and street-smart.
Its amazing that even though she didn’t give so many hits as other actresses, she still was a force to reckon with.
My only ardent hope is that she comes back to the silver screen. That’s where she belongs. I hope a director of the caliber of Yash Chopra or Karan Johar cast her in a pivotal role.
Sridevi , we miss you. We want to see you.
Like most of the people who know you say.. Sigh..They dont make it like her anymore.
Come back soon..
