Ah!
The college has been in the papers for all the wrong reasons, yet it doesnt fail to intrigue the outsider.. This is what I can tell you abt it.
St. Xaviers College is at walking distance from either Marine Lines station / Churchgate station / V.T. station. The building is made of stone and has security guards at the entrance... So no id - no entry rules follow...
The reception area is followed by the basketball court, which is more popularly known as the First Quad. Then comes the Hall aka Auditorium, then the Second Quad, then the Foyer and Canteen, then the Woods and finally the boys hostel and XIC. The college has a airconditioned Music room, Chapel, Computer centre, updated library which carries books related to the curriculum as well as fiction...
The college has a counselling centre, a multimedia room especially for all the presentations and seminars.
Most of the cut-offs for the graduate and under graduate courses never go below a 75%. (they average around 80%) The college runs the junior and senior college courses for Arts and Science streams and senior college courses for commerce... The college also offers courses such as Geology and Life Sciences / Biochem which are offered by just a handful of colleges in Mumbai. The college has more than often been rated among the best (top 5) in the country.. and there are very many good reasons for that...
Firstly, this is probably the only college I know where teachers are very very dedicated to their work. They make sure that students get the education they deserve at whatever cost... This means taking extra lectures et el...
Secondly, the quality of teachers is also superior to other colleges.. Student- teacher relations are the best Ive ever seen... Students can walk up to the teachers anytime for queries and help outside the curriculum even.
Apart from that, students are given several opportunities to show off their talents.. and by that I do not mean just Malhar.. While Malhar is one of the big events on campus, there are also other festivals which are organised... these include .. Ithaka - a Lit fest where plays are staged, the Jan Fest - indian calssical music fest etc.. Also rural camp, ocassional treks etc are organised...
As opposed to popular belief students dont dress in scanty clothes, cus it is not allowed on campus!!! (And the controversy about the princi not allowing red colored clothes is not true either)
The office staff can be very rude, but that is ocassional... even xavierites can vouch for that!!!
Though the review has been objective so far, but ....
Xaviers is the place to be if you believe you should be studying and having fun at the same time. In fact Xaviers is the place to be!!!
I studied there for five years and those five years have unforgettable memories... I would recommend everyone to complete their studies there, but unfortunately the college cannot accomodate so many !!!!!
If you know of anyone who is of collegeable age!!! send them to xaviers !!
cheers
