The worst credit card company

Manhattan provides credit card for less interest and higher credit limit. But as soon as you become member, the credit limit is decreased and the interest rates are increased. The customer care is highly arrogant and won’t reply for days, and each reply contains the same stupid message.

To make the matter worse, there is no online payment facility and depositing cash in bank would attract a charge of 100Rs. If that’s not enough, they can also lose your check, put late charges and then submit the previous check for processing after months. As soon as you block your credit card (say you lost your card), you can no longer see the statements online. The card will be removed from online reference also. And even you paid full amount, and ask your card to be canceled, you may find that your card is reactivated and you are receiving non-usage charges. I let on users to decide, whether they want a credit card from such a company.

I had already canceled my card last year, but this year a recieve another statement, to which I aked for explanation. Here is the reply of Manhattan on 22 Jan 2008:

"In your card account, as we have not received any payment towards the damages reflecting in the statement dated May 20 2007 and as the entire payment was paid towards the damage reflecting in the statement dated June 19 2007, the trailing interest of Rs. 34.79 was debited to your card account.

As a service gesture, we will reverse the interest along with its corresponding service tax."

Here is the background story:

I worked in Delhi, as a IT employee, I received Manhattan card with a supplementary card. The offer looks good to me, so I just applied for that card. After few months, they had decreased the credit limit and increase the interest rate. Now one day, I canceled my card, as I moved to Bangalore. They blocked it, as at that time no amount was due. After my card was blocked, they processed a check given by me to them previously. I had closed all the accounts, so the check bounced. Now after months in late 2007, they send me threating notice to pay around 1500Rs or they will take action against me.

The charge they put was for check bounce, and for not paying the check bounce penalty on time, repeatedly month after month. I was not aware of this, till I got a letter on my current address, as previous address was of my old company. I ended up paying 1000 Rs to that bloody blood s*cking bank. The online website doesn’t show any charges, once that card is blocked, go to bank to pay the money, and they will charge 100Rs. Call them, and they will talk like you are a beggar asking for some alms and not a customer seeking for a refund, for stupid charges.
