Star Plus only appeared on Sky Digital a few months ago, or at least that was when I first found it.
Not being of Eastern origin, I find everything about it new and entertaining, from the basic and informative adverts, to the many different series all with, of course, and Indian flavour. I am picking up bits of Hindi, learning new attitudes to life, and ways of doing things, which is a real lesson in culture. I am aware that much of this will be stylised, but even so, seeing the way the characters dress, behave, visit temples, greet each other, the furniture and ornaments the have in their homes, etc, is all of great interest.
I have recently discovered a cookery programme, and as I love Indian sweetmeats, this was a great treat to learn from, and amusing as well, watching how the male cookery expert take over so much from the female guest!
I am fascinated by the way the way different types of character are portrayed, their speech patterns as shown by the subtitles, and the pure Victorian style melodrama of portrayal of villains and heroines. The scenery in series is often wonderful too, as is much of the musical soundtracks.
I am very pleased this channel came along to brighten my television viewing.
