I’ll probably get a lot of hate for this but seriously? How? There’s only one show that goes on in Star Plus. Revenge. Between Mother-in-laws & daughter-in-laws. Wow!
Lead hero juggles two wives(only guys are allowed to do this, mind you, if a girl does the same, she’s branded’ashuddh’), one an insolent brat that he’doesn’t really love but does it to make his actual wife jealous, WHAT?) and the other’wise righteous sanskari’ woman(who will sacrifice her happiness to’keep the family together, WHY?), that constitute the lead actresses. The face of the serials so to speak. That’s it. That’s every show. Mixed with some UTTERLY USELESS side characters that add nothing to the story. Oh sorry, I said’story’, my bad. WHAT STORY! THERE IS NO STORY! It’s just "zoom-in camera on EVERY MEMBER OF THE DAMN FAMILY - Advertisement - WOMAN CRYING "MAIN IS GHAR SE NAHI JAUNGI, CHAHE KOI BHI MUJE ROKLE’ - Advertisement - Mother-in-law planning a devious plan TO DENIGRATE HER OWN SON"S WIFE - END.
I mean, is this really the quality of TV that we’re content watching? And these shows are THE most prevalent. Dominating. What happened? At least some diversity? No!
I do not watch these shows, but cannot help but catch glimpses of them while my mother is watching, and I always end up ridiculing & refuting all her claims of quality on the show. I just can’t stand such a demeaning portrayal of families and women in particular. Is that all they’re capable of? Trying to please their family members, passing the ultimate test of’pyaar’, being a’sushil kanya’ or some nonsense like that? Their arguement is -’We’re showing you real instances where women are subject to atrocities & prejudices from their family members’. Yeah, shows do depict real life stuff. One of those shows is called CRIME PATROL, where material is actually researched and adapted to TV. IT actually has an impact. But this? This is a joke, an insult.
I understand these are for pure entertainment purposes & should not be taken seriously. That’s what my mother keeps telling me. She’s probably right. Different things are entertaining to different people. But I cant help but conclude that these shows have some impact on our outlook on society. Almost EVERYBODY watches these. From poor to rich families, all you need is a dish connection, which is an easy thing to get nowadays.
I don’t know. Maybe this was an overreaction to a trivial topic such as soaps. maybe I’m the only one pissed off by these shows. At least bring some programmes where there is no love story. Maybe a horror title like Kahin Kisi Rozz, which was kinda ok. Or a murder mystery, with a lead women detective. Just anything to broaden our viewer experience. Not like hollow zombies staring at a saas poisoning her pregnant bahu’s tea, and deriving pleasure from it. It’s really sadistic. Bye.
PS: And they’ve got awards for these pieces of junk, what a joke!
