to start a band of your own there are a few things a person has to keep in mind that is the love for the music and get one’s music classified into one style and be known for it, there are some bands like euphoria and warlock, agni etc who have been changing their styles regularly which might be a gamble as these bands are the exceptions. for a very famous example is richard marx. he was a rock star initially and changed his style to love ballads and guitar to piano. some existing bands break into new ones because of the feuds on the type of music they want to produce.
