Celebrities invade a quiet town.
After the filmmakers of a movie have been kicked out of a small town in New Hampshire, they need to find a new place to make their movie. The director, Walt (William H. Macy), find just the place; a town called Waterford, Vermont. In the beginning of the film the townspeople are talking about the problems with the traffic lights, but after the stars enter their quiet town their focus becomes Hollywood. Variety magazine is being read and they are all trying to be as helpful as they can to the two stars of the film, Bob Barrenger (Alec Baldwin) and Claire Wellesley (Sarah Jessica Parker).
The script, written by Joe White (Philip Seymour Hoffman) is based around an Old Mill in the town. The Old Mill in Waterford burned down in 1960. He is freaking out about having to rewrite this movie, but gets some help from a local woman (Rebecca Pidgeon).
Their second problem is that their 2 stars are being very difficult. Bob has a thing for teenage girls and just happens to find one in town (Julia Stiles). This makes many townspeople angry including the Mayor (Charles Durning). Claire decides she will not do the topless scene in the movie unless they pay her an additional $800, 000.00. Walt cant seem to catch a break! Will the film ever get made? Will the celebs ever leave this town?
This movie was written and directed by David Mamet. The best performances in this movie were by Philip Seymour Hoffman and William H. Macy. They added humor to this film whereas the bigger star, Alec Baldwin, was lacking.
It was a good movie. Not necessarily a great movie, but it was entertaining. I recommend it even if just to see the actors in it.
Enjoy!
