Poor Customer Support and Misbehaviour

We have a local State Bank of India ( SBI) branch in our town, Nalbari. I went there to open a savings account for my own. I took all the required documents along with me for account opening.

I went to submit my forms and documents to the account opening officer. But I saw a long line of people waiting to submit their fotms too. So I had to join and stand behind the line too. After waiting for almost three long hours, finally I got the chance to submit. He checked my form and documents but finally rejected saying a document was missing. So he told me to come next week. But I asked why I had to come after a week but not the next day. Then he looked at me very angrily and ignored further questions.

So opening an account almost took 7-8 days for me only to submit my forms and documents. Then he told me to after two weeks to check whether my account was ready or not. So I had to wait for almost 21 days to open an account there. As he told I went to check whether my account was ready or not. I got my account and its number but surprisingly I didn’t receive my passbook because it was not ready yet. He told me to come to collect it after a few days. That means from account opening to receiving passbook, I had to wait almost for a month to finally got my account opened.

What made me even sad and angry at the same time when I also noticed that most of the bank officials including cashiers were misbehaving with customers or even with senior citizens too. Some senior citizen or aged people who were not that much literate to understand different banking rules or to write everything like filling the account forms, cash deposit forms, withdrawl forms etc, they asked for help and advice from those bank officials, but they either ignored them looking angrily or scold them for asking questions repeatedly. It made me very angry looking at their pathetic behaviour to the customers as well as our elders. They were never helpful and polite. I had never seen such arrogant government employees before. Goverment must do something to stop them from abusing common people because without the bank customers however illiterate or poor, the bank officials have no identity or existence. So they must respect their customers. Respecting the customers is their moral duty. Sometimes it look like as those arrogant officers think the bank as their personal property where they can behave or act like whatever they want to do. Nowadays common people even fear to go to public sector banks like SBI because of the arrogant staff members and their misbehaviour. This has become a very serious matter so we all people should stand against such employees. Enough is enough, it should be stopped now or it never be.
