A Good Deviation

The most important element in an John Grisham Novel is the element of surprise and twist that he gives at every point in the novel. Usally, the twists in the climax are not very pleasant and for once in the Street Lawyer, the author changes his routinue. This is one of the better climax I have read of Grisham as the novel comes to a conclusion at the last page.

The story is very simple. A hard working lawyer, because of an accident realises that he’s going nowhere in life. he decides to give up his job in the reputed firm and take to helping those on the streets. Soon, he finds a family of 3 to whom he takes a liking. But they die of hypothermia (I hope I am right !!!) and the traces this to them being thrown out from their home. He decides to find the culprit and soon surprise surprise ..... HIS FORMER FIRM IS INVOLVED. when he reisgns, he takes som incriminating documents on the case and runs. Will justice be delivered? We he be debarred from the bar ? ... Read The Street Lawyer

A lot many people talk of John Grisham not being a good romance writer. To an extent I feel that’s right. But in this film, Grisham has looked at Divorce. I always conidered as an Evil and there should always an aggrevied party and one oppressing party. But this opinion has changed after the novel. I think the author has justified every inch of space towards Brock’s personal life.

This book’s also will be remembered for the lessons of mid life crisis in a prsons life and how it can change the whole career. The sensitive issues about the slum dwellers have been well handled.

As a whole the book does not lack in anything but a little punch or ’’Masala’’ but it will make a good ’’Serious’’ reading.
