A second language

When I was in high school we were required to study at least one other language. I had chosen Latin and French and tried to take both at once which was very confusing as the classes were back to back so I would suggest only one at a time.

At that time I could not see how I would possibly use another language but have found it to come in handy many times over the years. Just as one example in chatting with people online if they are French and their English is not very good we can chat in their language and it makes it easier on them.

Maybe you have a desire to travel and another langauge can truly help you then. If you are overseas a good second language is English as it is so widely spoken. If in the states French, German, Spanish and Italian can come in very handy.

When you first start studying a different language you may find it a bit hard but as with anything if you think that it is hard it will be. If you learn to think simplicity then it is a breeze.

Sometimes we tend to make things harder than what they really are. So just relax with it.

A good idea is to find a study partner and study with them and this can help out a great deal.

Learning anything can be fun if you go about it in the right way and it improves us and makes us more aware of many things.

Chose a language you would like to learn and have a go at it. You don’t have to be in school to learn. There are tapes and books available for purchase or that you can borrow free from the library.

If you plan to travel to another country you can always take a quick course in the basics of the language so that you can get by when you are there. You will learn more as you are there and carry a dictionary in that language to translate if you have to.
