Not worth buying

I got a Su-Kam Falcon 800VA home UPS in 2 years back mainly for my PC, a ceiling fan and a CFL bulb so I can work non-stop in peace during powercuts. But little did I know what a grave mistake I had made by spending 14k of my hard earned money.

Well first of all, it’s supposed to be a home UPS which means uninterrupted power supply but sadly this was not the case as whenever there would be power-cuts my PC would boot up all by itself and I’ve lost valuable work on several occasions. On calling the customer care they bluntly refused to come over and take a look as according to them this was a problem with my PC!

I accepted my fate and thought that this was normal and so I dealt with the whole thing by saving my work every now and then although at times I wasn’t so lucky.

Then after a year or so it started giving problems. This so called UPS won’t run even for 15 minutes! There definitely had to be a problem in the battery but so soon? So I called customer care and they promised to send someone within the next 10 days which of-course they didn’t and I had to call them several times so it took a month for someone to finally appear.

The technician who came made a few tests and finally decided that the battery won’t charge up fast enough so it needs to be replaced. Now the warranty for the battery was for 18 months and he claimed that it’s only for 12 months so he suggested I should buy a new one and that the old one can be compensated for 2k. But I was damn sure it was for 18 months, I also had the warranty card and the bill! So I suggested why not call up customer care and find out and suddenly he panicked and agreed to get it replaced. Apparently he was trying to do some business on his own in black which the company may or may not be aware of, who knows? He gave me no receipt or job card and said this was all routine and promised to deliver the battery within the next 2 weeks. Again further delay.

After a couple of weeks the battery was replaced but there was a power failure during that time and so it could not be tested. Again there was no job card this time, he told me my job card got switched with someone else’s and also there was serial no. on the battery and it looked very old. And when the power came back, the damned thing just won’t work! I was enraged as I felt cheated and I was so angry at the whole thing I was willing to go to the highest authority, so I had to make a lot of phone calls and shout at customer care and finally the battery was replaced the very next day.

Again after a couple of months it started doing the same thing and since I was still in warranty I called customer care and this time the technician seemed to be a decent man, he managed to fix it just be tweaking a few things inside the inverter and luckily that time my PC bootup problem during powercuts which I had taken for granted also got fixed and I realized what a fool su-kam had made out of me all this while.

Now it doesn’t work for more than 5 min during powercuts but at least I’m able to save my work when the lights go off. Su-kam aslo had the nerve to call me up and ask me how it’s doing and I told them it’s a waste of money. So the lady over the phone asked me why I didn’t call up customer care if there were problems? "Because I’m sick and tired of going through this again and again" I said.

Be careful my friends, be very careful of Su-kam.
