Bloody good movie; Literally

Watched subramaniyapuram and was impressed with the movie overall.  But somehow felt that there was something missing in the end. Let us all admit that the promos of the movie were very very very good.

Little would have people imagined that a movie with promos like that,  Yes the lead characters, the guys with big hair and beard, wearing bell bottoms and patterned shirts with cooling visers(or were they goggles :)  ) and the leading lady with oiled hair clad in half saree. Would, in fact be such a bloody movie.

Yes the movie is bloody literally,   especially the second half. Lets C what was so good about this movie

1.  First rank goes to the Characters - The director has selected the appropriate individuals to play the characters,  given the fact that the lead pair have very little to talk about in terms of acting prior to this movie,  the director has extracted exactly what he wanted his characters to portray.  Jai as one of the lead men and samudrakani as the baddie have done their role to perfection.  Surprisingly, Sasikumar, the director is not that bad at acting as well.  In fact he portrays anger so naturally and effectively that those expressions stay captured in your mind even after the movie.

  1. Second rank goes to Script and Direction Sasikumar and Ameer were Balas juniors and subsequently sasikumar was ameer’s junior.  Given this history  we can only expect his script and direction to be logical and crisp.  That is exactly how the script and direction of the movie were.  No logical flaws, no clichees, no hamming by actors and no unwanted scenes.  And of course no grand sets or foreign locations.  The script has been built up pretty well and scene sequencing has been done in a way that the root cause of the introductory scene is disclosed, slowly , in portions, throughout the movie.

3.  Third Rank  Cinematography  like I mentioned before the movie is shot only in tamilnadu and there were no sets or anything.  With such a constraint the cinematographer would have had a tough job with lighting and with moving the camera around.  But he has overcome all these obstacles to show the charecters( the city is a charecter as well) according to the mood of the movie.

4.  Music, though not absolutely fantastic, was pretty fresh and good.  Kangal irandal is even now a favourite on radio stations and the Madurai...... fast paced song is a foot tapping number.  From what I can recollect there is very little background score.  even if there was any,  it was to reflect the mood of the scene.  The music director is the famous TV anchor James Vasanthan,  little did we know he had such a talent,  and all thanks to his real life student Sasikumar( yep the director was his student in college),  this enormous talent has come out

5.  If I were to mention of few negative sides of the movie,  then the Bloodshed has to be one,  but then the movie’s script is such that violence happens to be its backbone( revenge you see)  so cannot complaint that much abt the bloodshed.  The brutality of the violence is such that it may disturb your sleep on couple of days.

Initially I mentioned that there was something missing in the end,  i.e. after I watched the movie.  That something happens to be the chocolate ending that we are used to seeing in our tamil movies.  The movie ends abruptly and leaves a lot for the user to think about.

The theme of te movie seems to be " do not waste your time sitting idle wasting your parent’s money and your valuable time,  it will not only make you a lazy piece of potato but will also let others use as an instrument to achieve their own selfish needs."  Idle people are easy to manipulate and exploit.

A movie worth watching, only for adults.
