Stay away from Subway!

Subway is the newly opened and much advertised submarine joint on Waterfield Road in Bandra.

Firstly, for those of you who aren’t familiar with what a submarine is, here’s a little explanation. A submarine is a sandwich made with long bread rolls. The bread roll is sliced into half lengthwise and the fillings are put in between the two halves. Pick up any Archie comic lying near you and flip the pages open. You’re sure to spot Mr. Forsyth. P. Jones from Riverdale munching one.

Anyways, back to the delicasteen in Bandra. Subway has two counters, one for the carnivorous species of the human race and the other for the herbivorous..i.e. for the non-vegetarians and vegetarians respectively.

You have to wait in a long line till your turn finally comes. Finally, you get the attention of the young attendants who sk you what you want and then run out of the counter to greet some of their friends who’ve stopped by. By the time they’re back, they’ve forgotten who you are and get back to conversing with their colleagues.

A couple of ’’excuse-mes’’ bring back their lost attention and you place your order.

There are combinations of stuffings that you can choose to make your submarine from from. The Paneer Tikka, The Hummus and Falafel, spicy vegetarian etc.

What you order goes into the loaf of bread along with an assortment of vegetables, sauces, dressings etc.

There’a also the bread lengths that you can choose from. The 6 inches ot the foot long. Pay careful attention and pre-check the price first. Only the prices for the 6 inches long ones have been displayed. You naturally expect that the foot long one will be slightly cheaper that two 6 inches ones. But nope! You’ve got a surprise waiting at the counter! You’re charged for two 6 inches submarines plus taxes!

Anyways, your submarine seems cold and clammy. Just as though its come out after a long surveillance of the ocean.

You ask for it to be warmed but you’re told its at an additional price!

Anyways, by now its almost half n hour since you’ve set foot into the restaurant and you’re dying to get to a table and sink your teeth into the sandwich.

Another surprise awaits you. You’re submarine is tasteless and hard to chew.

While you eat on, you’re stared at by the hawkers from the roadside shops outside. They make regular rounds to watch the TV and the guests sitting in. The security guard at the door seems to be oblivious of them.

You come out promising yourself that this was your last visit here.
