Ahhhhh, we enter Subway and are greeted by 8 booths. Each one clean and ready for us.
We look at the walls and discover that the pictures on the wallpaper are of all the subway lines in New York City. Pictures of the subways a hundred years ago all the way until now.
There are some hanging potted plants that liven up the restaurant as well.
We walk up to the counter, (there is no table service at Subway) and see an array of sliced cold cuts and fresh veggies in the refrigerated compartments before us. Lettuce, tomato, onion, mushrooms, pickles, olives, hot and sweet peppers. You can have any and/or all of the veggies on any sandwich you choose. Ham, turkey, chicken, roast beef, salami..... And these are just the cold meats.
They also serve meatball sandwiches, hot roast beef and gravy, BLTs (bacon, lettuce and tomato), and almost every week there is a new special sandwich. Like steak, cheese, onions and peppers, all hot and yummy.
You also get to choose your bread preference. A regular white sub roll, a wheat sub roll, a garlic and herb sub roll and a few others as well. All made a few times a day right in the store. (Sometimes youre lucky and get nice warm rolls.) You can order your sandwich on either a foot long or a 6 inch sub roll. And they have a few combination lunches which include a drink and a bag of chips and a cookie for about $5.00 (US).
My favorite is the Italian, which is ham, salami, turkey, with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, oil and vinegar and mustard.
Top it all off with a grab bag of chips and an iced tea or soda...Voila!! A great lunch for under $5.00 (US).
They also have a low fat menu, which has subs with under 7 grams of fat. For those of you who are watching your fat intake.
And for you vegetarians, they make a great all veggie sub, with lettuce, tomatoes, onion, olives, mushrooms, pickles, cheese and oil and vinegar dressing.
Any way you look at it, Subway makes for a great, inexpensive, quick lunch.
Enjoy!
