I have travelled abroad on various occasions to Europe and USA and found SUBWAY sandwiches quite good for a vegetarian like me, but the Indian version is quite poor compared to the international counterparts. Even here in the heart of Delhi their quality is getting bad to worse as days go by and the staff is getting rude too, perhaps the success of the chain has gone to their heads.
They have started not only cutting down on the variety of fresh veg items that goes into the sandwich but also the quantity they put in it is laso getting less and less. If you do not like any particular veg and ask them to put something else a bit more then they refuse point blank. They used to give good quantity of everything but now even olives (Which used to be just strictly 4 slices of black olives per 6 inch sub) are no more available in Connaught Place branch. The cheese slice which was there with Veg sandwiches is now optional extra even after a recent price increase.
Sometimes their bread is stale and or too hard to bite into. The international branches give a variety of cheese and also corn kernels and other good variety of veg items in their sandwiches which is missing here. The staff is not properly trained, it is clear to see that every person prepares the sandwich in a different way, the way they cut the footlong into half is also not accurate some get upto 8 inches and some only 4 inches. For toasted ones some grill them in oven beforehand with or without cheese and some microwave them after filling the sandwich. All in all I would call it a poor and badly organised franchise in India which is not properly monitored either. If it is not managed the international way then it will go out of peoples popularity list.
