B-schools & Ent exams - FAQs

Review : IInd in the series -- I missed to mention a few insts , here they go-

[1] LBS, Delhi [2] Alliance B Academy [3] ISB, Hyd [4] Goa Inst of man [5] NIILM

FAQs -

[1] What diffenrence does it make whether I go for an MBA, PGDBA or PGDM .

... hardly any. you will find most of the insts awarding PGDBA or PGDM ( even the IIMs don’t award MBA). What matters most is the reputation the course and the inst holds with the concerned industry.

[2] What if the PGD course is not recognised by the governing body .

... These courses are recognised by A.I.C.T.E and the ministry of H.R.D , Govt of India. Though there are a few insts , MICA, ISB, IIPM, NMIMS’ PGD in advt , to name a few , award degrees/diploma with no recognition at all but having excellent industrial recognition .There are several indifferent insts awarding MBAs and recognised but are worth nothing .

[3] Fee structure

... Fee structure varies from inst to inst . It could be as high as 8-9 Lakhs (ISB), 5 lakhs (Kirlosker) and as low as 25 thousands (DSE) , 20 thousands (FMS). Though fee for most of the inst fall in the range of 2.5-3.5 lakhs .( Most of the reputed insts help students get educational loan financed).

[4] The B-school surveys/Rankings

... Though there are many surveys being done the most reliable ones are the one done by (a) Business Today (Bi-annual survey of top 100 B-schools (b) Business India (Bi-annual survey of top 100 B-schools (c) Outlook (Annual survey of top 50 B-schools. ** Don’t trust the rankings as there are different parameters adopted by different surveys and a host of other factors .If the grapevine is to be believed , the surveys are manipulated in favour of the insts ;financing’ them . So just read it , ascertain facts from sundry sources and then draw a conclusion.

[5] Selection procedure

... Written exam followed by GDPI (Group discussion and personal interview). Though in some cases you might have to face (a) extempore (LBS) (b) Group Interview (SPJAIN) (c) A written exam yet again (MICA). [6] Examination Pattern ... Objective exam comprises of mainly (A) English (B) Maths (C) DI and reasoning (D) GA.

[a] English - reading comprehension , vocab etc.You might ’encounter’ 5-6 passages and other questions based on vocab etc.

[b] DI and reasoning - Questions related to Data , i.e Ven Diagram/Pie chart/Graph etc & in the reasoning section you might find logical and verbal questions.

[c] Maths - you name it and they will ask it .You will usually find questions from the 10th standard & questions from selected chapters from 11th as well as 12th standard also. ** The most tricy part is - if you are looking for ’formula based’ questions ou are in a for a surprise it will be more of your test of our anlytical/logical abilities.

[d] G.A - Current affairs & corporate G.K .Though in the ent exam to the sectoral b-schools you will find bulk of the questions from the concerned field/industry.

[7] should I take coaching/tutorials/postal classes ?

... Why not ? remember what ou will take , say , 2 days to understand on your own will be taught to you b those insts. ** Remember this is this the first ( may be second) you are appearing or such exam but ’they’ are adept in it as the have been teaching the same since long .And when you have the option to take the better route why ignore it ? But remember , if you don’t have your ’fundas’ clear , i’m afraid , an coahing help won’t be of much help to you .As far as the choice of the best coaching inst is concerned , you can join an such inst of national repute , such as IMS, Time, Career launcher , PT etc. Though IMS is considered the best the others are not lagging far behind. Then there is no surety that if the IMS centre is the best in DElhi it will be the same in Patna too . Like here in Bihar IMS comes a poor third in the race .So this is something you will have to decide on our own .

Postal Coaching - If you are not interested in taking the regular classes you can opt for any postal course . Here again you have several options at your disposal , like IMS, CL, TCYonline etc.

Test Series - If you want to assess where ou stand in comparision to the other aspirants do take an Test.s. because it will give you a national ranking and you will be able to see your performance .(Prefer Inst of national repute , preferably IMS as most of the aspirants take the same).
