You want to get down a chauffeur driven car, dash into the Seminar room, Give some presentations while looking over the watch every five mins, Shake hands with top people whom you have always watched in the covers of leading Bussiness Magazines, Take decisions concerning the future of your company, Give some staunch interviews about how Governments should work.......Then Guys you are looking out to be an MBA.The most coveted three letter word which every student would like to get by his name...But tell you guys MBA is far more than what it seems and infact you are putting yourself to a big struggle for the rest of your life.
This struggle starts right from the moment you decide to become an MBA and fulfill your parents desire(Believe me!! thats the reason for most of the students).
Did I hear Why?? and infact How??? Well here I explain
1.The MBA degree is still thought about a course which would enable you get some fat pay cheques..
2.The MBA program takes the advantage of Professional experience in an Organization than any other program
3.In the Corporate world of MBA’s the Brand Name matters.I mean the College name matters and there are only few colleges which count.
4.You are not the special one trying out. There are hundreds and in fact thousands out there trying to gain an edge over you.
So it should be clear that the admission to any good MBA college having a brand name and a well developed curriculum is a tough ask and to filter out candidates we have Entrance exams like the dreaded CAT, CET of Maharastra etc etc…I dunno about other CET’s but I think every college should cater to any one exam for admission. In fact if a college doesn’t have then it is considered bad in student circles……
The Entrance Exams mostly follow the pattern of Written test, Group Discussion, Personality Interview and may be in some colleges References also does matter. The overall concept of the Entrance Exam is to gauge your knowledge upto High School level rather than your area of specialization .It also gives a filter criteria to the Institutes.
Aptitude usually contains Maths, English, Reasoning both Logical and Analytical. The preparation for this exam remains the mystery for most of the student and I would try to make some clarity out here.Well most of the exams try to gauge you on your time Management skill thru this exam. Also your knowledge upto basic level is required. So definitely you are not going to gain these skillsets overnight and requires a good amount of harwork with perseverance and planning. It is found that most of the people have some areas of weakness For example it has been found that people with commerce background find the Maths hard while the Engineering people find the English tough. So the best tactic is to attack your weak areas and concentrate and try to eliminate them although it will take time. Joining Coaching classes are good if you want to have a guided experience and for people who are not able to chalk out schedules and follow it. Examples for good coaching classes would be IMS , CL , Kits , Time etc But my opinion would be that . along with that you have to put enough hard work.
Next would be to make some analysis as you work so that you can gauge your improvement. This is one of the mistakes made by students who go on working without even realizing that their improvement is quite less. Speed is another factor which would mean a make or break for you. Definitely speed is not gathered in a day. You have to constantly monitor your speed and make improvement. Shortcuts in Math and above all doing calculations Mentally would help in you in a long way. Best is to put the shortcuts to use in Your profession. English demands a high control over the language and definitely good reading habits covering variety of topics would help. Particularly topics like art, abstraction, philosophy are derided topics but it would be worth to get comfortable with that since we have one passage in each exam.English Grammar is another topic which can be improved only by extensive writing and taking part in revews like this forum is great help towards that thing.
GD & PI is totally on the individual skill and also till that stage part of the competition has aleady got filtered. GD would invole your communication skills A good understanding on the current affairs and good command over the language would help greatly.Doing a course in public speaking is worth an investment. PI is the first face to face contact with the people with whom you would be dealing with for the next two years in case you scrape through. So you can expect jumpy and tricky questions and best is to compare it with ragging.Any question is allowed and it is the presence of mind that help.So keep your cool.
All then guys I have put my bit.Hope it helps you all.I hope you take a decision on whether you have the grit to do all the above. If yes the MBA is made for you…so come along……
