CAT-05 PREPARATION[TIPS & STRATEGIES]

The hot persuit for excellence is on.The Stage is set.Winning means everything and failure, the end of it all.Hopes may crash , wishes may drown amid the fierce competition , and the possibility of this to happen is what often haunts the most.

99% of the applicants will be rejected in the selection proccess, and that to happen is sacrosanct.

CAT-characterising all the above features is easily the most coveted and possibly the toughest exam in the world, to secure admission into one of the IIMS.

Neverthless the scope of the topics being asked is nothing more than that of standard 10th , but the stakes of the question is invariably much greater.

What they want is not genius , plethora of knowledge or hard working

hell but a simple , adaptable & shrewd mind with a good common sense who can handle any kind of typical situation.

And this quality he/she clearly reflects in the cat paper.

CAT PAPER - A two hour journey through the hell. It’s not like compiling the answers based upon your knowledge store house , rather u need to work your way out. A mamoth 160 odd number of question to be answered in 120 mins.Less than 50 secs per question. At the same time you need to go thru 5-7 passages of 700-1400 words and study a few DI tables. So for many the game is easily lost even before a meak start.

Still many have adapted to this and thats wy they r characterised as a brand , and the brand value of iim is unparallel. So there must bne s’thing , these guys might be sharing , the qualities -ordinary or xtra-ordinary that characterizes them.

Well the three qualities I found are -

1.CONFIDENCE

2.CONFIDENCE

3.CONFIDENCE

And if I’m asked to mention any other characteristics again my answer wont change. Confidence is something and everything that is required when you take the written, face the GD/PI or at the time of your preperation. And I’m sure if you already have it , half the battle is already won.

Now coming to the Strategy. It can be divided into two parts:

1.Strategy for preparation.

2.Stategy while appearing the CAT.

1.A strategy while preparing for the D-day should be made after making a detailed assessment of ur strengths and weekness. This may include to fill ur lacunae , so that u can more than easily clear the sectional cut-offs. Morever there should be strategies on individual sections.

QUANT: Practice & practice. Tthe more u practice the better u’ll get adjusted to the range of problems that may be asked. U must clear the basic concepts for which u may need the help of 8th, 9th, 10th & higher books on maths. Don’t hesitate to refer these books. I feel CBSE books are better but the choice may vary individually. Then u may jump on 2 of any standard cat preparation kit -time, ims or career launcher.

DI & REASONING: TIME , IMS Or CL.TRY TO SOLVE SOME PUZZLES.

VA & RC: It make need an extensive preparation for those who r not from public school background, but a sincere approach will produce outstanding results.Probably the most scoring of all section. If u lack in grammar , pls refer Wren & martin apart from the basic course material.I’m sure it will be of great help.

A regular reading habbit will take care of ur comprehension skills & also vocabulary.U should also go for a good wordlist to strengthen ur vocabulary.

Try to read anything and everything that comes in your path.

2.Now coming to test taking strategy, it may vary with the kind of paper.Just check it out appearing more and more mock tests. The time factor , possible sectional cut-offs should be scrutinised properly. If a paper is calculation heavy , pls dont panic .Its same 4 everyone there. Moreover its not the %age that’ll matter but

he %tile.Try 2 maximise ur score in the easier section and clearing the cut offs in the typical ones.

Take this watch word during the test : COOL.

IT’’LL SURELY MINIMIZE THE PRESSURE .

If u have any doubts or things to share Pls contact me.

OK BEST OF LUCK FOR CAT -05.

wishing u success in all ur endeavours.
