Natural resources such as petroleum, water, land are abundance in Sudan but utilization are not so much of their extracting capacity
There is always Water through out the year (365 days). My family and I have seen and enjoyed with it, had been using Nile water for our living in Sudan for two years.
Nilen Rivers (blue- from Ethiopia and white-from Uganda) becomes “Nile River” in Khartoum from where this single river starts running up to Alexandria (Egypt) .
Revenue- Main income of this country is from sugar factories (5 govt-co-operative) and “Kenana sugar company”that is a big source of revenue. Kenana is second largest in the world next to Canada. Coimbatore is well known here as the sugar seed or feed for Sudan was initially brought from kovai. Code of Sugar cane begins with two letter “CO” that stands for “Coimbatore” .All factories are located along the river belt area,
Gum taken from Babool trees for export is helped by “Bin laden” .
Electric Power: Electric Power is generated from Nile River at Sennar and another place. This is only available National grid supply. Now there is a High Electric Power available across the road in Khartoum . In addition “one Indian company” has signed a MOU with Sudan Govt to construct five Power Stations for Electric supply.
Telivsion :There are two local television Channels namely Sudan TV( Omdurman) and White Nile. There is no cable operators control over watching TV channels. Individual can install their own dish (one time investment) to receive their favorite Satellite channels (Nile sat, Arab sat, Panam sat & ete) From Panam sat we can watch DD news, DD India and DD Bharati and India TV, NDTV(all are free channels), only time difference.
Besides, weekly once particulary week end One hindi film on Bharain T V channel, and one hindi film on Ajman TV, and one on infinity channel are received on Thursday, Friday , and some time Abu Dhabi channel will also telcast hindi films.
We can not believe that Most of the Sudanese know Bollywood heroes of action movies like our big B Amitab , Akshay kumar, Sunil shetty, Sunny deol, .
There are few theaters where they can show mostly Hindi films.
Communication: not like India many service providers are available but one interesting service is better to be highlighted. That is, cell phone service provider Mobinet has made a provision for the customers to send money to another user with one command. .
People: In general people are very kind and like very much Indians and our culture. They compare always our habits with theirs. Football is their national game. Every one is crazy of it
One could see, over all that there are two levels of people in the society. One level is rich people and another level is poor people like in Durfur. There are no middle class families like seen in India, In Many Villages there are no proper roads and no proper houses and even electricity is remote chances. But “their TV channels have not failed to show few documentary films that cover areas like Pune(hills area) in India, interior parts around Coimbatore, Keeripatti in order to equate their level of civilization with India”and poverty in India is not eradicated completely. These people know Pune and Coimbatore where many Sudanese study. Here is Male dominated society. Even though some ladies are seen in office Ladies have to cover entire body with one lengthy top’s except face and hands (sometimes with gloves). This is not seen nowadays with younger generation and in Khartoum .I wonder whether they cover their head just because they do not have lengthy hair. Anyway it is the part of their custom. Unmarried girls have more freedom than married ladies. It is converse of India.
They are fond Indian materials .If you give some one even Indian pencil as a gift he/she will be very cheerful. Particularly, “fond of sand products” like sandal wood, oil, pathi, soap. When asked they said that the smell of sandal would “induce the feeling of male for grater sex satisfaction.” All bridegrooms must do the process of getting smoke/smell of sandal oil into her skin of the body. This is their marriage tradition.
Some people speak Hindi to our Indian friends who are shy of hearing when they are not able to dialogue with them in our National Language.
“The ladies of Sudan are interested to know how the long Hair grows for Indian ladies: as they do not have long hair their food items are in reverse of ours. Their main food is our side dish and vice versa.
Infrastructure: No proper roads are available in most the country except National High way as from Khartoum to Juba and Port Sudan. I could see some railway tracks but not trains of any kind. That too, it is in city of Bharai. In Khartoum it is exceptional in the last few years. With Chinese support Khatoum gets developed to exponentially. Two lanes road all over the city and extended to Omdurman, Deluxe Buses are running with help of Expatriate drivers.. We could see one old Bridge across the Nile River near Kosty , head quarter of White Nile State for Road Transport. It is called “Indian Bridge”that was constructed by Indians in a few decades back .
Banks
“ No interest” is paid to their customer for their money kept in the bank; on the other hand “service charges” are deducted.
Rain:
There is one time rain in a year from June to September .Not like in India where there are two times
Heavy wind called as “ABUB” disturbs their normal life once in a year that too in summer season from May, June and July. This wind will control entire country.
During summer unbearable heat is generated like in Hyderabad , AP but no Humidity
Currency :Periviously “keeping Dollar was crime” . Police would arrest any one found with Dollar unless it was declared in designated bank-Nilen bank for limited amount.
Now it is liberalized, we can keep $5000 with us, and are permitted to carry with $1000.
Now Sudan Dinars become stronger and stronger day by day.
More than two Exchange agents have opened their office in Khartoum. This is a feast for Indian and other nationality in Sudan. This agent will help them to send money quickly to their relatives in other countries. Get Local currency converted into dollar if they want.
Before two years, In Khartoum Airport, Passenger were tortured by custom police in opening all material/bags from their luggage in the name of Inspection, We had to get ready mentally to re pack carefully for sending it to Conveyor belts. While landing too the same painful process was carried out. It was some sort of harassment. Now the situation has got improved, opening all bags is stopped and only randomly done or suspected one is inspected. Passengers got relived from this painful task
The country has vast area with less population particularly less male than female. There are world Peaceful places found in Sudan too. According to me , Natural resources like water, petrolium and land are somehow less utilized by this govt/peopl
