Sukran is a movie directed by S.A.Chandrasekaran with the sole intention of boosting his son Vijays image, but he neednt have assumed that audience are generous enough to accept a movie that has no sense at all.
Sukran is Ravi Krishnas movie after his much acclaimed debut in 7/G Rainbow colony, we are told that he is the hero of the movie and Vijay comes for a guest role, but only after watching the movie you realise that it is Ravi Krishna who has been thrown to the state of doing a character role and the movie is just a praise-sing for Ilaya Thalapathy.
Much of the movie just ends up as a sort of comedy(the unintended type), and the viewers are left to search for any sense or logic in the whole narrative..but alas, you have nothing in that category. So Sukran just becomes the record-breaking-logicless movie of the century.SAC must get a special award for being so alert not to allow even a bit of logic in the movie.
Now if you are very serious about knowing the plot, its here.Ravi and Nateesha are college mates, they both love each other(did you expect any other thing?). Nateesha has a cruel step-mother and even more cruel uncle(step mas bro), and a dummy father(obvious). In contrast Ravis father Naasar is a friendly person who flags a green signal for his sons love and he even goes to the extent of helping them elope to Chennai.
Naasar gets stabbed by Cruel-Step-Moms-even-more-cruel-bro for helping the pair to elope, Naasar kills him and dies. Now the cruel step-mom Nallini, in order to take revenge , calls up Inspector Sriman in Chennai and asks him to destroy the lives of the young couple. In this process, the heroine gets gang-raped by the Inspector, a judge and someother good for nothing chap whose character I dont remember.
The pair decides to suicide..and ..and you have the entry scene of Vijay with a BGM Dharmam Azhiyum poadhellam, Varuvaan Sukran.Vijay starts a lecture on how to live , why to live, how difficult it is to suicide etc, etc that runs for some ten minutes. On listening to the enlightening lecture , the pair give up their suicide mission and start living, ...cut there, its time for some song and duets, again towards climax, disaster strikes them again and Vijay, a lawyer becomes the saviour of the pairs love.
The script is plainly an excuse for Vijay to come onscreen and mouth out some BS.He goes on and on in his entry scene about how one should live, face troubles etc.But more than that its his stunt in the entry scene that gets a clean chit for being a land mark comedy scene(the unintended type anyway), and most of the remaining scenes just falls in this category. The climax easily qualifies as a master-piece in this category.
The hero-heroine suffer at the drop of a hat, for the heck of Vijay coming and saving them. There is blood and gore, gravity-laws-breaking-high-flying stunts, there is oomph, there are one-liners and obviously no logic and no sense at all.And even while running for their life when the villains are chasing them, the lead pair has enough time to break into a duet. There are two item numbers, one is Rambhas and the other is Ragasyas. In this, Ragashyas version is an innovative(?) item number which gels very well with the story line(if there is anything to go by), means that song helps our Dir.SAC(who does a cameo role as himself) to loot a Video cassette from the Villains den which contains the evidence of their villainous behaviour.
If you were in an impression that such scenes were a thing of senseless movies of 80s, wait....here you have the same thing, but only difference is Ragashya has replaced Silk Smitha..thats all.And the song is stale remix of yester year song Thulluvadho illamai.
Songs are there to fill the gaps, they are peppy, alright, but nothing stays with you.Cinematography is just OK and so are the other technical aspects. It is Vijays film and nothing is there to comment about his performance.Ravi comes and goes, Heroine Nateesha comes and pours litres and litres of tears, suppose if she cant make it big in silver screen, she can very well look out for mega serials as this movie has given her an enormous training for crying all the time.Naasar is there, Seetha is there, they are there just to die in the hands of the Villains.
Shobas Sukran , directed by her Husband SAC , featuring their son Vijay as a god-like do gooder, also featuring SAC in a guest role as SAC himself, a do-gooder again is eventually their family Thudhi-paadal affair.Pity that they made it into a mainstream movie and expected the crowds to watch it as a movie. But the whole thing serves us some other purpose of being a great comic relief.
I recommend this movie just for that reason, but if you are a person hell-bent on watching only good movies, kindly stay away from this.
