On my first visit to Mohammed Ali Road during Ramzan this year, we went to this sweet shop to try their famous double egg malpua and firni. The place was so crowded, that the vendor barely had time to handle all his customers. But yet, the service was fast.
The malpua was being freshly prepared - there was a huge heap of eggs in one place, and the person who was making the batter and also frying them, was breaking the eggs one by one into the batter - pouring it in the oil and finally throwing it at the collecting plate - where it made a perfect landing except for a few specks of hot oil who also made an escape - be careful if you are standing there to stare at the process.
They serve the malpua in a paper plate, after pouring a few spoonfuls of sweet rabdi onto it. Ah! to eat the piping hot malpua with the rabdi is really an out of the world experience for food connoisseurs - worth fighting your way against the crowd. The firni was good too - matka firni with a plastic cap so you can carry it home easily - one of the best firnis I have had.
To be honest, more than the non-veg food for which the place is famous, I liked the sweets here. Wish I had skipped the main course for the desserts, wanted to try some more of them. A piece of advice though - eat the malpua there, piping hot. It doesnt taste as well when cold. Firni you can carry home, it will taste the same.
