My wife delivered our second baby at Sunrise in June. Thought Id share my experience.
Why Sunrise:
The infrastructure looked decent, there was not much of the rush and I had taken my first to the pediatrics there. The doctors were also very good (Dr. Antony, Dr.Devdas, Dr. Anand etc..). Had been warned abt the bill. But that was something the insurance would need to care for. Besides, the hospital was on the way to my office. Additionally, Dr. Rajakumari, the Ob/Gyn my wife was visiting was form this hosp. We had heard nothing but good things about her
Getting Admitted:
Was fast. Friendly staff at reception and the doctor had put in a word to the reception. Had booked an AC Deluxe room for 1050 per day (Did not plan on using the AC, but just wanted something reasonably protected against mosquitoes).
Setting up the IV inlet:
The inexperience of the nurses showed for that and some other procedures. My wife, who is pretty pain resistant cried and requested the process be stopped. I requested for the doc and she came and advised that it will be placed at the operation theater. This was her second C-Section and the first was very smooth(at a different place). Compared to this, the second one started very badly..
At the Theater:
Per my wife, once the doctor took over, everything went smooth. We were waiting outside and in a few hours, the nurse called out my wifey name and brought my boy outside. In a few minutes, he was taken back inside
After the Surgery:
Got to meet my wife for a few minutes right after the surgery. She was drugged anyway. Started the long wait outside to receive the baby. Was informed that the baby would be with us in four hours. Went back to room, received a call from the nursery to come down and pick up the baby, when we went there, we were told only the nurses could pick up the baby. We went to the nurses and they said they would move only when instructed from the Nursery. This thamasha continued for a few hours and often the nurses station was vacant and my heart was beating wildly as phone was ringing at the station with none to attend.
Finally I went to the nursery and asked them again and they mentioned that they had already called the nurses station and told them. Went back to the station and they were adamant that no such instruction came to them. Finally begged one of the nurse to come down and talk to the nursery staff (Who was also rude). They spoke and agreed to disagree. Finally after hours of waiting my baby was brought to the room. My last trip to RTO Office was much more efficient.
Small Note:Additionally, right after the delivery, I was asked to pay the admission fee for the baby. I went down to the reception and the ladies there recognized me and congratulated me on the baby. Felt very nice for the personal attention I got from there..
The Room:
Saw some tapes that were stuck on the door leading towards the balcony. Requested it to be removed on our entry. Realized the blunder after night as scores and scores of mosquitoes rushed in and attacked all of us. No one could sleep any of the nights that we stayed in the hospital rooms. In the day, the balcony could not be used at it was directly overlooking the area were they were burning all the waste. Stupidest of designs.
Attempted to operate the AC in the second day evening. Soon there was a water fountain inside my room, which damaged a lot of my clothes and some of my electronic equipments. Called the repair folks and they promised to come the next day as it was already 9:30 in the night. The next day they came, saw that the water had dried, claimed that they could not see the leak and left.. I called them again and threaten to complain to the PRO. They came back and did something. Tried the AC in after that and the leak was still there.. Decided not to use the AC room.
Nursing Care:
Care after the delivery was mixed. Had some excellent nurses. Had some not so good ones.
Food:
Quality was decent. However the choice was hopeless, the timings were very irregular. Also, often, they did not even have the very basic food that a patient needs. If you hope to have a healthy diet/choice of food, look elsewhere. Even the restaurant, with decent facilities, is maintained badly by the people looking after them. Does not instill any confidence in eating out there.
Conclusion:
Overall, the experience was much worse than the first baby delivery in a different hospital. If I had another baby, would I go here again? Probably yes. An amazing doctor(Dr. Unnithan), reasonably clean interiors, The ability to visit the patient almost anytime, friendly reception and lack of crowd would ensure that I would bring my family here again for another delivery.
But I
would not get an AC deluxe room
Would get my own food.
Would pray for the better nurses.
Had to meet the PRO and the reception after the discharge for some reasons(Medical bills, discharge summary of baby. Met with very good service)
Summary:
Very good facilities, excellent doctors, mismanaged for some reason
