Change in lab reports.. a very grave mistake....

I live in kakkaanad, a few kilometres away from sunrise hospital. I usually visit sunrise hospital fro both my kids. age 3 and 1. the paediatric department is excellent and they are available ata ny time. even during the late nights and very early mornings. even they have a good paediatric team. .

i also have the history of wheeezing, for which I usually go there in the odd hours for a nebulisation or shots. the docs whom I have met have been good.

I am writing this for an incident which happened last week.

Last friday, my husband was ill with fever(nowadays, . the rainy seasons. fever is very severe.) and we went there to see a physician. the physician whom we thot of seeing was not htere. and we were given the slot for a junior physician. She checked my husband and prescribed a few medicies. My husband was a on medication for 3 days during which he was having fevers at regular intervals and he was always very weak. he wa also givena cugh syrup-correx- which is very sedative and drowsy.

On monday, we took an appointment again to this same doc, and he did complain about body pain and fever at regular intervals. She told.that is ok. need not have any medicenes.just go on continuing the cough syrup.

so we came back home.

Tuesday morning, my husband was shivering with fever and could not even get up from the bed. Each and every inch of his body was paining . we quickly somehow gt ready and went to the hospital. we had no other option other than sunrise, cos it was the nearest. and with 2 small kids, I had to shutlle up and down. and so that was my only piece of resort.

we went there again and the doc whom we were seeing was not htee. and we saw another doc. thank god . and from his diagnosis, we got hte feeling that our first prescriptions were not apt. my husabnd was forcibly made to be admitted into the hospital. though he was weak, he had no reasons to beadmitted. the doc told "be admitted, we need some tests to be done".

and our miseries started.

we were given a room. rs.800 per day.

instns were given tht he had to be given nebulisations every 6 hrs. during our 2 day stay. he was only given 3 nebulisations.

he was put on IV fluid.and when the set was disconnected for going to the bathroom or to have food, and had to be reconnected, I had atleast walk 3-4 times tot he nurses station, to get it done.

canteen food was neat and good. but overcharged. rs.35 for a masala dosa. even BTH and dwaraka charges you only 40 for one. and rs.40 for veg meals. they call it south indain thali meals!. curries are just below average.

we goat admitted in the afternoon . I asked when the doc would come for his rounds. they told me 5:30 evening. I thot i’ll leave for home after the doc comes . it was getting late. whwnever I asked them they told the doc was on his way. at last he came .at 9:00 pm sharp.!

we thot we’d get a discharge. the doc told no. a few more tests.

the next day my husband was completely alright. in the mning when the doc came.and we asked fro discharge. he was like .no. let me come for evening rounds.

that day evening I asked the nurses, will the doc be late like yesterday. they told no. but again.it was 9 when he arrived. and atlast we got a dischrge.

there were few unused medicines. few nebulisation strips, a bandage set and an intravenous set in our room. a nurse quickly came and took away everything.

there were a few more medicines to be bought. when I went to the pharmacy, I asked them whether the unused things were returned in my husbands name. they told no.

when I asked in the nursing station, they are telling me only two tablets were there, which they will be giving us back.i asked them abt the other things. they are looking into my eyes and with no hesitations telling. there wasnt anything else.

our bills had to be settled.

we called the billing section and they started giving lame excuses for the bill delay. I thot ill better go downstairs and look into the matter.

i had to do a lot of walking until I was told that it was in the reception the bill had to be cleared.

i waited in the reception for 15-20 minutes.

things are so unorganised n the reception and pharmacy, where you have to wait for along time unwantingly. things are so pooorly co-ordinated and managed. except for a few girls walking in foraml suits with telephones in hand.

I started reminding the people there abt our bill. I saw my husband’s file lying recklessly over there. I thought i’ll simply go through it.

i was going through it . the lab reports especially. suddenly something came into my notice. it was not my husbands lab reprt which was placed there. it was the lab report of a 64 year old lady placed there.

i asked them how come it happened. suddenly they started telling that they will look into the bill matter. I strttd getting angry and told them to rectify the lab report matter first. they called a nurse from the concerned floor and he came and looked into it and told me"Madam, it was by mistake".

How dare can he say that? It is according to the lab reports that treatment is done. a 64yr old lady lab report instead of my 35 year old husbands.

They did not even have the courtesy to say a sorry.

The next shock was when they told me the bill amount. it came upto Rs.6000- for just 2 days. to be precise 1.5 days.

so to all of you folks. never get admitted into sunrise . they will take the juice out of you .you will be forcibly admitted.and you will be treated as per the lab reports of somebody else.

the nursing care is very poor . no hot water in bathrooms. no hot water to drink . poor response from responsible people. nothing happens on time.
