I know this topic is under Bangalore, but there are no American Super Markets listed, so either read on or ignore me for being in the wrong category!!
Ive been shopping in 3 Super Markets for many years. Albertsons, for the good prices on their canned goods and their great buy 1 get 1 free sales, Winn Dixie, for the great selection of meats and seafood and again, their buy 1 get 1 free sales, and Publix, for their wonderful, fresh veggies and fruits...and their buy 1 get 1 free sales.
And I do use coupons (not always, but most of the time.)
We all like and need to save money, dont we?
Our Target store just reopened as a Target superstore with a Super Market now too. So I decided to try them out.(As did about a million other people the first week) I thought, Wow, theyll probably have great grand opening sales!
Target, big, bright, laid out well. They had many hard to find items as well as a fresh sushi bar and an expanded bakery and deli. Hmmmmmmm, they also had very high prices! Most people I noticed werent even bothering to notice that. All they noticed was, NEW STORE! One thing was on sale. Whole watermelons, grand opening sale, with coupon, 79¢. But, just about everything I checked out was more money than the other stores. The convenience of being able to shop for groceries and clothing and household supplies all in one store outweighed the overpricing to alot of people I guess.
So back I am at, my 3 favorite Super Markets.
In these stores Ive already learned that not all items that are on special displays are necessarily on sale. I also know thatbig name brands actually purchase shelf space that is at eye level to make you and I more apt to buy it. Isnt it easier to look straight ahead, than to look up or down for a product?
Well people, start looking up and down. Check out the canned peaches on the top shelf and on the bottom shelf as opposed to the eye level shelf. Top shelf, brand X, 16 oz. for 89¢, bottom shelf, 16oz. for 97¢, eye level shelf, 16oz. for $1.29.
You cant be lazy when you shop if you want to save any money.
As I stated before, I do use coupons, but not as often as I should. Check out your Sunday newspaper for some great ones! Youll be surprised on how much you really can save. But remember too, dont buy a 50 lb. bag of rice because it has a 75¢ off coupon, unless you plan on using it within a reasonable amount of time! Dont buy 10 cans of cat food with a $1.00 off coupon if you dont have a cat!(Believe me, some people really do!)
Another thing, dont think that buying a larger size will always save you money. Check the unit price amount, which is the per oz. price and compare it to all sizes of the same product. You will be surprised when you figure out that sometimes its better to buy in a smaller size.
Another thing I notice is that people dont always look for expiration dates. It takes a second to do it. Why chance buying something that expires tomorrow, when right next to it is one that still has a week left until the expiration date?
Eat before you shop and you are less apt to make what I call hunger purchases. These are items that look soooooo good, because youre hungry. Yet when you get them home, you realize you really didnt need or want them!
Read the flyers/circulars the stores mail out each week. Shop in more than one Super Market. (Unless theyre 25 miles apart!)
Take advantage of sales and use your coupons. Try to shop without your children or husband/wife. Shop alone, stick to a list, check prices and expiration dates. Youll save money and be happier in the long run.
