Mixture of excitement and surprises

Title : Interesting as well as time consuming.

Review : The ESPN superselector game requires a lot of brainstorming as well as luck if you want to emerge as one of the winners. This gives a great opportunity to all the cricket enthusiasts. This competition has many aspects and it has evolved over the last one year or so. Basic Concept - You need to buy a PIN to get started. The cost of the PIN is INR 50.

You can participate in a daily game as well as monthly game using this PIN. With one PIN you can form one team. Each team will have six batsmen, four bowlers and one wicket keeper. Each player has certain number of points allocated against it and you have 1000 points in which you can get the 11 players that you need. For example, Sachin Tendulkar is a top ranked player and hence he is available for 150 points.

Similarly young guns like Irfan Pathan are available for only 20 points. Based on the performance of the players in your team you score points. Each run scored by a batsman gives you one point, each wickets gives you 25 points, a catch/run-out gives you 5 points and each catch/stumping done by a wicket keeper of your team gives you 10 points.

The luck factor - A lot depends on your luck. Even the most expensive players can give you a zero in terms of points and a very less expensive players can give you 100 points in a match. Other competitions - Besides the individual competition there is a corporate challenge where your company colleagues can also form teams and you participate as a company team. Here each company should have 10 teams and the sum total of each team of your company will be the total score of your company team. We had a strage experience.

Our company was leading the race in the VB series corporate challenge and all of sudden we saw two new teams entering the competition and acquiring the top two positions. So it has its own share of controversies. Substitutions - You are allowed 10 substitutions per team so that if a player is injured or not performing well you could replace him. All in all it is worth some fun for the whole month by spending INR 50. If ESPN doesn’t cause any surprises you might end up winning a prize, who knows?
